Cylindrical pillar at high point of grass and heather clad slopes of Gometra. Very fine views including Iona and the distant Paps of Jura. Moderate S wind, pale disc of sun in alto-stratus cloud cover. Nicely maintained 'private bothy' on SE side of island close to the burial ground, contact gometrafarm@mac.com for permission to use. The traverse of the E and S coast of Ulva is an enjoyable venture, there's a path of sorts but requires sure-footedness and a head for heights - not suitable for the feint hearted.

Long walk from the ferry and frustratingly not enough time to bag Ulva Marilyn too

Argyllshire. We followed the track round the north side of Ulva to reach Gometra. It was a deep heather ascent from the track but we found an easier way down. The views were spectacular - Jura, Islay, Iona, Treshnish Isles, Staffa, Tiree, Coll, Rum, Skye and the Outer Hebrides. Plug with raised lettering.

vgc, cylindrical, metal cap, wide raised letters. Flattish heathery summit, great view. From high point of track, keep R of heathery slope, on grass & bracken. Ulva ferry 9 til 5 weekdays. The 2 trigs in <5h but they deserve better.

as last return ferry was at 5.00 pm, walked to Gometra only, leaving Chreagach for another day.Apart from some bracken thrashing, a delightful day. Cafe closed at 4.00! My 950th Scottish Marilyn.
