From High Cascades NT car park (NY 39680 21100). Across the road and across Aira Beck, which was in full flow then follow the path up to the trig point - new path is much better

Parked in layby just south of bridge in Dockray. Had a ramble to the spectacular Aira Force and cascades first before ascending. Very muddy going today and blustery on tip but worth it for the magnificent views. Superb pillar on top of an outcrop constructed of local stone and a large national trust 'medallion' set into it. Onto Little Mell Fell now!

A nearly perfect winter walk. Minus points for coming a cropper twice on the ice and for the restricted views of Ullswater. Otherwise good stuff with blue skies, no wind and a light dusting of snow. Parked in a layby north of Matterdale End Church and walked down to Dockray and the farm track which takes you over AIra Beck to the start of a path (currently being repaired) up the fell. Interesting to note that this pillar was erected 6 years after Wainwright's Guidebook visit. Last time I was up here was Sep 1987. Life changes; the fells don't.

I have only contoured around this fell on the UTLD 100, and the views never fail to take my breathe away. A circular walk from Dockray straight up onto Gowbarrow via a PRoW. Another fine example of a Lakes stone built pillar. Returned via Aira falls, the landscape at the waterfalls was landscaped for the Howard's of Greystoke. Hard to believe. I gift to sun tan lotion factor 50, certainly needed it these past few days.

Walked up from Aira Force waterfall NT carpark - lovely circular walk over Yew Crag - Excellent views over Ullswater on a cold but reasonably clear day. AW's 194 completed. Despite visiting the Lakes over many years. I never took time to stop and have a look at the Aira Force waterfalls - well worth the visit

Day 5 of 12 Dent to Boot Walk. From Pooley Bridge via Swinburn's Park. The shooting lodge on the OS map was nowhere to be seen and the map does not show the path to the trig, but believe me you can't really miss it. Easy climb NW from the marked shooting lodge and the trig soon comes into view resting on top of a crag which is easily climbed as we did, or avoided if you wish. Trig seems a bit wonky but in good nick with NT plaque. Views lovely but a popular place. Steepish path down to Dockray for a nice pint then onto Threlkeld via the old coach road. This was to prove my last trig success of this particular adventure, I got 3 out of 6. Bad weather prevented High Seat, Pillar was over ambitious with a tent on your back (needs to be the focus of the day) and Harter Fell, well we had a go from the Dunnerdale Forest and failed on a near vertical ascent - tip ignore the marked OS path from the S and follow Wainwright instead.

Final hill of the day, walked up from Ulcat Row, bad idea, no paths rough terrain and a wall to climb. Earlier that day we had bagged Little Mell Fell, Great Mell Fell and did a 9 mile walk on Souther Fell, Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell.

Walked from Aira Force car park. For the last part of the walk the path heading east is not on the OS map. But it is clearly visible, through a stile and following a wall. Beautiful views.

Walked from Airra Force car park. Although the path heading due east is unmarked on the OS map, it is visible and ascends quite steeply in parts and follows to the right of a wall. The pillar even has a diverted path to it. This is a cracking little walk of 4.5 miles with some fine views overlooking Ullswater.

We are staying in the Lake District en route to getting married at Gretna Green. Walked the circuit from Aira Force, up to Gowbarrow Fell, then continuing in our clockwise circuit back to the National Trust car park. It was a sunny day and quite lovely up here - the climb was a bit over-warm but the breeze was nice. Met two other fell walkers up here who helped direct us to the tricky decent that was the next step on our journey.

A walk of three halves. We wanted something easy after a long, (for us), day on H. A bit crowded, and pricey, down by the falls where coffin dodgers, (like myself!!!!), prevailed and I enjoyed myself by strolling in front of the camerati with their tripods and air of assumption that this has all been set up for their personal and highly artistic benefit. (Sorry. In a bit of a mood.) Through the bracken above Ullswater was fun but once above the Shooting Lodge it was a bit muddy. Didnt ease until the latter part of our anti-clockwise route over Green Hill. Theyre still there!

Ascended from Dockray and also visited Little Mell Fell on circular route. Fantastic views on a very windy day. Trig is on a little knoll, surrounded by dry ground. There is a recently constructed permissive path from Dockray that is not on OS or Harvey maps and leads right by the trig.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 24th May 1960 costing £26.14s.0d. Computed as teriary station NY71/T13 in 1961. Levelled for height also in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in August 2000. SITE VISIT: Parked on south verge at NY404225 just east of field gate, older maps will show the former church. Approached hill from the north only to find there is a new path up from somewhere on the west side which is as yet unmapped. Stone built pillar in good condition. Plastic plug in spider. Flush bracket faces 214° SW. Vented through SE sight hole. Pillar completed 24th May 1960 costing £26.14s.0d. Panoramic view to surrounding Fells.

One of the lesser Wainwrights, some good views across Ullswater to Hallin Fell and Place Fell, although the cloud was down on the chilly, miserable March day for us, so we didn't see any of this! Nice pillar though, being one of the National Trust specials constructed of local stones with a large NT plate on it. ***Revisited 14 Jun 2017, a bright sunny day. Top cap has been lost, composite plug in place. RHS sight hole open.

A fine fell, famed for Wordsworths ****ing daffs. It also has a "precipice walk" on teh Ullsawater side which is simply one of the most beautful paths anywhere. Pillar is stone built with an NT plaque. Note the 5 digit number, no S after 9999
