One of eight trigs bagged along the A66 corridor, making my way home after spending the bank holiday weekend in Keswick. This was the last. Turned off the A66 to park then crossed back to the other side on foot. Over the gate and followed road to where it beared left accross the moors. Crossed the stream and then continued to track left and up to the top of the fell. The pillar appears to be in generally good condition but the original centre has been replaced with concrete. Great views.

As others, parked at S end of A66 underpass (NY873128). No waymarkers at N end of underpass contoured hillside, then along linear corridor through first gate in wall and onto Yard Sike to shooting huts and then a turn W to a quarry. Along N side of wall to high point. For trig, there are a couple of places to access through gates, good views.

Parked close at the junction of the A66 and South Stainmore road. There is a good land rover track heading north which if followed will take you to an old quarry. From here it is only a short walk to the hill summit and TP. Keep to the N side of the wall for the best underfoot condition. The TP is in good condition, it has obviously been painted at some point in in passed with faded white paint in places.

A great day to be in the North Pennines for my 400th pillar. Parked just after turning off the A66 (signpost Barras & South Stainmore) and ran the gauntlet of crossing the road. There was an obvious good track to start and then we followed Land Rover tracks towards a ford, before making a beeline for the top. Such a lovely warm day, gentle breeze, sat on the grass beside the pillar, watching the whole of the Upper Eden Valley making hay as the sun shined. Before we knew it we had been asleep for nearly an hour and needed to get back pronto. Guarding the fence we had hopped over on the way up was Mickandkims' huge bull- they weren't kidding. Took a detour till we were out of his sight and then had to take on the A66(M) traffic again before we felt safe.

Pleasant walk up from Slapestone Bridge (NY 8480 1473) - plenty of parking. Some potentially very boggy ground rendered firm by recent low temps. Pillar sits at the hill summit on a sqaure concrete plinth that is deteriorating at one corner. The centre cap is missing and is replaced with an asphalt plug, although it's been painted so is possibly mortar. Rear sight hole open. Extensive panoramic views.
