Bagged on a circular walk from Braidlie. Parked in the lay-by just before the road end (there are no "official" passing places on that road however we left enough space in case the lay-by had to be used for that purpose). The walk started off very pleasant up through a very pretty valley however once we were on the open hill conditions soon deteriorated underfoot; trackless, boggy and tussocky. The panoramic views from the trig were very impressive however as far as I was concerned it was a box ticking exercise! Marked condition of trig slightly damaged due to one of the top corners being damaged.

From the Heritage Centre, parking for 2-3 cars at NT 5253 0031. Track first, then rough breaks. Cleared away from forest at the 401m spot height. Fenceline-ish for 1.6km, then a westward direction to Berry Knowe. Ground rougher than expected. Pillar sits within a shelter cairn, a small amount of top screed missing from one corner, otherwise good. Centre cap missing, tube unplugged. Front sight hole plugged, RHD side open, other 2 plugs are degrading. Extensive panoramic views.

From Shankend up the good road and paths to the Maiden Paps. Greatmoor cairn visible from the summit here and about a mile from MP. Super day for walking, lovely and sunny, Fairly dry underfoot - except the odd bit that needed negotiating, and great views :-) 9.5 miles in total and a nice afternoon out in the hills.

Continued on from Penchrise Pen Trig along the forest tracks. There is one gate to hop as it is padlocked shut, but other than that it is a very nice walk. Followed the forest track till NT4912801497 and then made my way up the fire break to Berry Knowe. It has a few fallen trees to negotiate, but does have sleepers positioned over the burns for bridges. Between Berry Knowe and the trig it is a bit wet in places.

Parked at start of forestry track at Whitrope Hass. The initially good track soon gives way to a boggy ride as it passes along Sandy Edge. At the end of the ride a newly made track runs for a few hundred yards and then there's some felled forest to cross to get to the fenceline. Followed this fence, more or less, all the way to the pillar. Great view.
