Fairly easily accessed from the NT Greenleighton quarry car park (follow the moor walk and bear right when you reach the gate through the first dry stone wall, its roughly 500m from the start point). Views are good, and there is no windbreak in place so bear this in mind... you will have to brace yourself when taking photographs as this site is exposed! Enjoyable circular route if you choose to follow it (roughly 6miles) and can be combined with a little caching :)

30/11/16 14:35 An interesting and fairly obscure corner of Northumberland with excellent views north towards Tosson Hill and Simonside across the Harwood Forest, and extensive views south. The road that leads NNW up past Rothley Shield West has 3 gates across it in quick succession which makes for awkward progress if there's only one of you in the car! The road that leads WNW from Rothley Shield East has no gates and is therefore a much more convenient route to the Greenleighton Quarry car park! The upshot of this visit was I somehow managed to corrupt the photos transferring them from my SD Card to my HD, so another visit is required...10/02/17 16:24 Second visit...very snowy, so thought this an ideal opportunity to retake the missing photos from previous visit...however, forgot to charge camera battery got 3 pictures then the camera died, so a THIRD visit is now required. Glad this is an easy to access and very pleasant TP to visit!!

Pedalled gallantly into strong wind on my road bike. The wall has been rebuilt and closer to the pillar, but rather poorly as I managed to shower my posh bike and my knee with rocks as I tried to photograph the flush bracket. At least the wind was behind me as I returned home. Lovely views though.

Spider has replacement OS cap with raised large narrow lettering. The BsM flush bracket faces 146, southeast. Vented through NE sight hole. The pillar was completed on 10th May 1946 costing 6.14s.0d. In 1947 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NZ29/T10, Newcastle. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1969. The trig point was last maintained by the OS in December 2000.
