Happened to notice the trig on the map whilst having a walk in the area so detoured from the path through the wood and found the trig toward the corner. With Alma Aurea.

Bus from Reading to Woodcote then a gentle stroll round the village to find this rather obscure pillar lurking in the woods. As others have mentioned not the easiest find and not for the first time I walked past it. The trick here as I later discovered is to locate the tumbledown brick building which is in an area of wasteland that looks as though it is about to be redeveloped. Someone has cut a hole in the chain link fence (not me!) that runs down the reservoir track. Squeeze through that and the pillar is more or less opposite. A very mossy one - difficult to pick out as it is well camouflaged and would be even more so in summer.

I used to go to school in Woodcote, and in all those years, I never knew it had a pillar. To be fair, you could probably live opposite this one and not know it existed. Bit of a bugger to get to, buried in a patch of woodland next to a reservoir. Trig is covered in moss and surrounded by other concrete blocks, which makes accessing it a bit of a scramble... if you can find it in the first place. Best accessed from the pathway at the junction rather than the gate to the reservoir, but you'll need to hack your way through the undergrowth once you leave the beaten track. Requires forward planning, gardening, thick sturdy clothes, and a winter visit. After Blackbushe, my least favourite pillar so far (out of 64 at time of writing).

Was helped to find this one by a woodman working nearby. He was aware of its existence, and led me straight to it. As we conversed, he became more interested and even slightly excited by the historic piece of concrete before us, and he expressed a determination to tidy up the area surrounding the trig 'within the next few days'. This was his tenth consecutive day of working, but he wanted to help preserve this pillar's historic importance. How uplifting all this was! Cap in place & one s/h open. After, I went for a short walk in the Common Wood to find snowdrop heaven; it really felt as though the long winter was passing at last. And finally football heaven: STFC 3-2 PVFC.

Rather a lot of work to get to this "easy" Pillar. It is easy to find but is rather over grown and quite a lot of brambles to scratch you when fighting to get to it. Be careful of a gap between two lumps of concrete that my leg went between. This Pillar its self is in good order. Left 5p coin on top.

Parked in the layby to the W, then took the gated lane opposite 3, 4 Nightgales that leads to the phone mast. Trig was opposite the derelict red brick building, well buried in dense under / overgrowth. Did a lot of gardening to clear the area and scraped all the moss & lichen off the trig. Once uncovered, trig was found to be in very good condition, original metal cap, front sighthole open, all other sightholes closed. There was a lot of concrete bases in the surrounding area, they looked like old foundations of a building. I left a 2p coin in the front sighthole for the next visitor to find.
