Parked just below the reservoir on the forest track that skirts the south of Kateshaw Hill and followed the forest tracks to Greenside. Failed to take sufficient notice of the advice below, and tried reaching the TP by going up the side of the quarry and following it round. It is, as has been pointed out previously, much simpler to follow a direct line from the Fire-Break following the line of the felled timber, and making a direct assault up the quarry wall, which is steep, crumbling and eroded, but not as overgrown with spruce and larch as any other approach. The TP itself sits in a delightfully tranquil spot, albeit one with no views to speak of.

Car park closed at Greenside. Parked on roadside at ny655883 and walked on track NW into forest. The felled logs acts as a navigation aid to this pillar. The last 10m turned out to be a bit of a clamber.

Parked in the Forestry Commission's Greenside car park and followed the track up to the pillar. Bit of a scramble to reach the trig. No view from the top sadly, but good views of Kielder Water on the descent.

I wish I had read the log of the previous visitor before I attempted this one as I made exactly the same mistake. Best route as in the last log which I only discovered on my way back.

Track from Leaplish then sharp turn S at top. Just before crest of track is a narrow firebreak on R with logs visible. Easiest approach - walk straight forward from end of the log-pile and scramble up the short steep banking, don't fight through the spruce like I did...

Greenside The TP. Interesting to compare these pics. with those from 2007!

CP marked on map at NY658873 is no longer a CP but there is room to park at gated entrance. Final access to trig along an easy, short firebreak from track @ NY640877. not quite sure where the dangerous quarry is mentioned below, except to say the final few meters to the pillar necessitate a very steep climb up a bank - no problem with care and I'm 5'2"

Parked at the entrance to the forest track opposite Leaplish. Did a circuit of the forest tracks there and back. Trig now in quite dense forest and you have to approach it from the rear as the trees are now too near the edge of the quarry to pass safely. Last one of the day and decent ish views of the reservoir on the way back.

Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Left sight hole open, others plugged. Flush bracket faces north, ~7. Secondary station in Block NT72. Completed 14th June 1954. Views to Larristion Fell, March Head, Deadwater Moor, Greys Pike, while surrounding felled area has present open outlook. The woods will grow again making this pillar difficult to find. Parked on verge by forest entrance at NY661864. Followed mapped tracks to disused quarry just NE of trig, through quarry and up stepped slope to trig. Photographed 16/10/2007, GRP.
