Alma Aurea had been keen to bag a hill with a trig so I treated her and Hitman9956 to a walk up here this morning. Bad weather was forecast for the afternoon so we parked directly below in the layby opposite the mast track and took a fairly direct route to the summit following atv tracks where possible. We beat the rain and the cloud but it was very windy. Great views.

Local Trig. Parked at NX1785495501 before following path up to cairn at Byne Hill, descending back down again and heading for Cairn Hill and finally the trig at Grey Hill. Brilliant walk with fantastic views.

Excellent circular walk from Girvan going coastal first and up by the mast then returning via the ridge. Good clear views across to Antrim but the strength of the wind was a bit of a problem.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 12th August 1954 costing £36.0s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NX29/10 within the Girvan block in 1955. Levelled for height to pillar top also in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in June 1985. SITE VISIT: Pillar in good condition, built without FB. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. One sight hole open; facing ENE, ~57°. 360° panarama includes Ailsa Craig, Knockdaw, Knockdolian and Penderry Hill.

Parked at cattle grid a bit after Knocklaugh Farm. Met 30+ school kids + adults helping on Duke of Edinburgh. Dry and clear with some cloud. Probably my 600th Marilyn on count back.

Very grey today. Mist on both sides of the hill from about 125m. Came up from the ESE (just south of Loch Lochton) and plunged down NW alongside Barniecairn Glen to the shore.

Parked at end of Girvan, and struggled to find a way up over Byne Hill. Came back down via track to Woodland, which made much more sense - got a friendly nod coming through the farmyard.

no plate. ascent involved crossing a double wire fence. Threw Arran over - dog not wife! No cairn. Ailsa Craig, Arran (island not dog), Knockdolian and Beneraid in view.
