One of the easiest pillars logged so far. Beside a car park so able to ride up and park next to it. Superb views across the sea, to the west and north across the Island and to the mainland beyond. Not sure if this is the county top or Shanklin Down. Both measured at 235 metres ground height. OS shows this location as St Boniface Down.

The second of four pillars whilst staying ton Portsmouth. Went over to the Isle of Wight to visit friends in Ventnor. The kindly arranged a trig point and walking programme taking in this one plus Dunnose.

This pillar can be easily bagged by car as it sits in the corner of a car park next to the Ventnor Downs radar station. Alternatively, you could walk along the downs from the Shanklin direction and just head for the big masts. Decent views, but pretty average surroundings.

Easy drive-by or short (if steep) walk up from Ventnor. Decent view of the channel. Some remains of WW2 radar station nearby, but otherwise not a very inspiring location.

Parked in Southsea, Portsmouth, took hovercraft to Ryde, caught train from Ryde to Shanklin and did a 10.5 mile circular from Shanklin station, bagging Appuldurcombe Obelisk, Appuldurcombe Down trig, Week Down block, Wroxall Down trig and Shanklin Down (Dunnose) trig back to Shanklin station.

Bagged today during holiday on IOW, walked from Shanklin via Skanklin Down TP. Visited the trig point and what appeared to be a high point just inside old security fence, also Marilyn bagging. Weather dull with drizzle and low cloud, so no views. Walked over the down to drop into Ventnor and a return to Shanklin via the coastal path.

I had come down from Coventry for the day to bag the nearby County Top. I was pleasing to get here just after midday having left the car in east end of Southsea to avoid the high car parking charges, bike ride down to the passenger ferry terminal, take the catermaran over to Ryde, train down to Shanklin and the ride/push the bike up to here.

Bagged this one whilst on a long weekend’s geocaching with Omally and Hi-Tek. Waited for the rain to abate before getting out of the car to take some photos. Good views once the rain had stopped. The pillar is in good condition and carries the O. S. Passive Station plate. The centre plug is missing and has been replaced with tarmac.

Located on the top of St Boniface Down with good views down to Ventnor on the southern coast of the Island. Surrounded by what appears to be wartime paraphenalia, the pillar is in good condition. Bagged this at the same time as the Dunnose trig on Shanklin Down - well, not exactly the same time, there was 32mins between the bagging!

day trip from Southampton to pick up the nearby county top,did a real clever thing on the way to the top and managed to lose my map, good if misty views, on to S1502 then down to shanklin and the coastal path to sandown.

Visited on the annual LUL old lags summer walking weekend. The trig point is on the top of a down. The top itself has no name – as is often the case, names relate to slopes, not tops. In this case, the slopes are Wroxall Down and St Boniface Down. St Boniface Down is a Marilyn, and the highest point on the island (241 m). The site behind the trig point now houses National Air Traffic Services (NATS) facilities. This was the location of RAF Ventnor. The high point itself is somewhere inaccessible inside station perimeter fence. However, the trig point is easily reached, lying just outside the fence. The nearby car park has a plaque commemorating the Channel Airways Dakota that crashed here in fog in 1962.

We hoped this was the highest point of the island, but discovered too late that St Catherine's point is higher. Anyway, it was a great view, despite the horrible phone towers. Looked in vain for Adonis Blue but only saw Magpie Moth.

An easy trig to visit and great view too. Its a nice walk from here to the nearby Dunnose trig and you might see some horses along the way, like we did!

Our first trig on the Isle of Wight, my first visit to the island since 1967 and Jenny's first ever visit ! Can't believe it was 40 years since I was last here. Trig easy to find and plenty of space to park. Good views all around.

Not impressed with all the "human junk" up here on what we had called St Boniface Down but good view. Very easy to get to by car. (Some say this is the highest point of island though its a metre short of St Catherines Hill on my map.)

Drove up to for nearby Marilyn summit. Parked car by trig much to the amusement of wife, mother and mother-in-law waiting in car whilst I scuttled round nearby compound for high point. Low score of 5 given due to being in thick mist.

Walked up from Ventnor - rather a steep climb! Rather cluttered with ancient radio masts, but great views - watched the boats moored in the Channel queuing to get into Southampton docks. Continued a few miles along the top, then dropped down to return through the Landslip and Bonchurch to the start, a nice circular 5 miles or so.

Very easy to find next to the lane with great views in most directions. Close to a viewpoint car park. Plug missing and hole filled.
