Easy one to find. As people have said park in the lay-by on the road at the start of the footpath and it’s just under 0.5 of a mile walk in a straight line to the trig. I would have awarded it more. It’s slightly damaged at the base and due to the weather not much of a view but I would imagine on a good day it could be superb.

From the outset I did not have plan but with just four left to visit, I decided to visit all four in a day and saved Shutlingsloe for the last visit. Gun was my second visit for the day. Parking is available opposite the gates for the Gun Moor Nature Reserve. This provides access to the PROW that leads directly to the pillar. It is in generally good condition and retains the original centre for the spider but there is some damage to the top of the pillar. Excellent views in all directions with The Roaches, Hen Cloud and Tittesworth Reservoir, all clearly visible.

From lane to west. Good views to Roaches and Bosley Cloud. Logged by Keith Stevens for HC U3A. The following history is reprinted from previous visitor ('Wheresthatpenguin' below), with thanks. ---- Gun Hill was where John Naden's corpse was hung in chains for public display on a 21 foot high gibbet following his hanging on the 31st August 1731 at the nearby White Lee Farm, for the murder of Robert Brough (a process known as "gibbeting"). Naden's body remined on the gibbet until it decomposed, was picked apart by birds, and completely disintegrated. The gibbet remained on Gun Hill until the 1880's as a gruesome reminder of Naden's fate, following which the wood from the gibbet was used to make some of the stiles in the area. Gun Hill in general, and the said stiles in particular, are said to be haunted by the ghost of John Naden!

Last pillar of eleven on a 24hr walk from Buxton to Congleton via Ilam. It was so bright this morning that through lack of sleep my eyes started absolutely streaming with water when I looked at the view to the east of the trig. Lovely area with some very cherished memories for me now. Video now up on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kpobUEECMk .
