Parked at the car park to the N of the trig. Across the road from the car park, there is a fake trig (it does not have a spider, FB or sightholes) by the side of the road. Entered the field by climbing over the field gate (to the right of the white van in the pic of the fake trig). Crop had been harvested, so I just walked across the field straight to the trig. Trig in good condition, centrecap missing, rear sighthole open, all other sightholes closed. The trig looks like it has been repaired immediately below the FB. I left a 2p coin in the rear sighthole for the next visitor to find. I also visited the nearby White Horse.

Parking in the usual car park and then along the Ridgeway, As I arrived it was harvest time and the hay bails were being loaded onto a tractor, I was intending to ask the farmer/workers for permission, as I walked along it became apparent that they were off to empty the trailer, my assumption therefore was, there would be a while! so hoped fenced and walked the 200m ish across the stubble to the Pillar, good condition, amazing weather and great views.

A cold, crisp but sunny January day - lovely. Trig is just over 300m from the Hackpen Hill car park and in the middle of an agricultural field so a trespass is required and be prepared to get muddy at the wrong time of the year - not today though. Easy acces to the white horse carved into the hill.

The pillar was found in a field of blooming rape next to The Ridgeway; it has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S2403. Distant ridges to the south and east were shrouded in dark rain cloud; Cherhill Down is to the southwest. Below the scarp slope Swindon lies to the north and low rolling countryside stretches to the horizon in the north and west. Nearby Monkton Down affords a good view from the Ridgeway to Avebury and beyond; Temple Bottom was home to a couple of magnificent highland cattle and has a cottage that retains a cut benchmark in its brick work; I was attacked by a ferocious hailstorm at Rockley Down; a deer jumped into the woods as I crossed Wick Down and the view of Preshute Down from the byway was quite picturesque.
