Parked at Hackpen Hill car park. Walked along the Ridgeway towards Avebury. Crossed into the far back right hand corner of the farmers field on your right, where the fence has been flattened. Continued to the far back left hand corner of the field and walked the perimeter until easy access to the trig was available. I didn't want to damage the crop and the rape in the field was high. Luckily there was a good area where the crop wasn't growing which led straight to the trig. Quick and easy hop through the wooded area back onto the main road to get back to the car park. Lovely day. Stunning views. My dog enjoyed pretending she could catch the hares running through the trig field (she was on a lead).

Was looking forward to a nice, easy bag here. Wasn't fooled by the not-a-trig by the roadside, and headed up the track and over a collapsed section of barbed wire fence to get to the pillar. A new crop seemed to be making its first appearance in the field (I wasn't expecting that in November), so I followed the tractor lines wherever possible, thinking maybe I shouldn't be doing this. On the way out, the thick, claggy mud claimed the sole of my boot, and a constant stream of ramblers made it difficult to exit the field without looking deeply suspicious. Fairly sure the occupants of the 4WD vehicle that then drove down the edge of the field saw me, too (though I'm pretty certain I did a lot less damage to the new shoots than they did...) No confrontations, but felt awkward, and was now faced with bagging the other four pillars on my itinerary with only one boot sole...
