Parked at the start of the track up to the disused mine. Easy walk up to the trig. Had a walk around the old buildings when I returned.

3rd of an interesting day! Haile. Tried parking in village and walking ESE on PROW (signed cold fell lane) but this was quickly impenetrable due to thorns and overgrowth. Then parked further along road on grass verge next to house and walked path south next to old mines (iron ore). Turn left through open gate onto track in field (just after the derelict mine houses) as you ascend gentle hill pillar becomes visible in hedges on the right, stood on promontory. Best approached from the front side of the hedge. Lots of inquisitive locals today all interested in my rambling! All very welcoming thankfully

Walked from Haile village along footpath east to meet track from the mine. The track from the mine is a permissive footpath. Then a short walk across field to trig point.

Walked up from Haile, the Prow 410001 is a bit overgrown but in the winter is passable.

An easy one to find. Follow lonning up passed (behind) the old mine buildings and continue to the 3 gates - NY 04278 08431 - then walk beside the hedge on the left. The pillar can be seen on your left before arriving at the gates, however, my route minimises crop damage.

Drove up the track towards the disused mine, parked and walked the final 300m. Pillar is anchoring the fence with b/w wrapped around it, but seems in good condition; plinth is exposed; cap missing, no plug; 1 sight hole open; FB has not been set upright in the pillar. Views are good but mainly to minor fells N&S; E to rising ground; W to the Irish Sea.

Via mine path, fog meant we were on top of the pillar before it was visible, on a tall solid foundation in a hedgeline newly planted with hawthorn seedlings

HISTORY: Pillar built in November 1949 costing £18.18s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NY11/T26 in 1952. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in December 1976. SITE VISIT: Parked in Haile and followed the PROW east to high point then northwards, west of boundary lines to trig. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces WNW, ~295°. Vented through SW sight hole. Black Combe is standing prominent on the southern skyline.

We approached this one via the track that leads to the disused mine. The track is gated but the gates were wide open. After the mine buildings we cut off up to the left then followed the hedgeline to the trig. Missing plug.
