Only visited this one a couple of days beforehand, but our 12.1 mile walk from Draughton went close by, so thought we would visit again. Carried on to Bolton Abbey on a glorious day, it was a wonderful walk that contained another trig at Haw Pike.

First of two trig points, as we also visited trig at Crookrise Crags later on an 11 mile walk. An fairly easy short climb to this one, which could do with a splash of paint.

One of four trigs bagged during a cracking 13.5 mile hike in the Yorkshire Dales out of Embsay. Great views accross the valley and beyond. The pillar appears to be in good condition and retains the original centre for the spider.

A revisit for me, and pillar #43 for my little trigbagger. A glorious sunny day with views stretching to the horizon (albeit with freezing windchill). The pillar is on access land with paths leading to and fro, so access is very straightforward. It is in fine condition, with an original cap and the last vestiges of white paint clinging on gamely.

Lovely little walk up from the cattle grid around the old quarry. 180 degree views of heather moor, 180 degree views of interesting Yorkshire.On our way to Barden Bridge to do a superb bit of the Dales Way up to Burnsall.

Pleased we braved the inclement weather and went for our 2nd trig of the day. Plenty parking and followed the bridleway north to Rylstone. A short walk that provides 360 view. This trig has the last vestige of a splash of white paint. Spider intact. Its surface top appears uneven. Always worth the effort regardless of the weather. Turned out to be a lovely afternoon.

Walked up from the cattle grid below the trig, through the crags and up onto the top. Hunted and found a geocache on the way down then promptly lost the dog for 30 minutes. Went back up and back down but no dog. He eventually emerged from below a rock.

September Camp 2018. Walked from Skyreholme to Barden Bridge, then onto reservoir roads on the Barden Moor access land (no closures for Grouse shooting this year). From the lower reservoir we walked to the Upper Reservoir, abandoning the intention to bag Thorpe Fell trig due to time. So we picked this up on the walk back and I'm so glad we did. The pillar is set on lovely rocky moorland and the views are amazing. Original cap still, although it looks as if someone may have been at it and failed. I could see both Skyreholme Valley and Ilkley at the same time, Billing Hill near Leeds is evident, Chelker Reservoir, Skipton, Bronte country, Pendle, Embsay Crag and on and on.

I alighted the 873 Craven link Dales bus from Skipton.at the 1st cattle grid NE of Eastby.I got a few Rivet BMs on path up to trig,better weather than my 1st visit,walking to Strid Wood Tea Rooms next for a coffee before bus back to Skipton & a pint at The Devonshire.

Whitewashed trig sneakily hidden by the cairn on walk up using sketchy tracks through the heather. Nice view with the reservoir looking welcoming for a dip in the sun but there is a large black cloud coming with snow and hail so I'm off.

Small circular on Sharp Haw trig and Rough Haw waiting for cloud to clear of the 500m hills, then drove around to opposite side of Embsay and did a circular taking in Halton Height trig, Brown Moor, Cracoe Fell war memorial and Thorpe Fell Top trig, back down to car.

Parked my Motorcycle at the bottom of the hill next to the cattle grid and had a steady walk up the hill with my wife Marie ! This is my 300th trig point !

SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Parked west side of road at SE037554. Ample parking both sides of Barden Road. Near direct route to summit. Heather clad grouse moor. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~247°. All four horizontal sight holes open, innards blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.

No direct path from the road but a feel for the summit got us there. Excellent views to Lower Bardon reservoir, Skipton quarry and to Simon's Seat TP. Still blowing a gale. The weather was very good after a poor start to the morning.

A nice walk from Embsay as we did a 13 mile circular walk taking in two other trigs. Really nice weather and lovely views.

Walked up from layby near cattle grid, strange rock outcrop on way up looks a bit like sphinx rock on great gable.Trig in vgc with original plug shallow lettering,top is concave very strange.

Easy access on good paths from either the cattle grid at SE 03158 55073 up the path beside the wall - or the access path at SE 03417 55159 beside the signpost. Huge cairn dominates the hill top but great views around. Look out for the "stone man" on the path from the cattle grid! I would also echo the comment earlier about the odd concave top on this pillar - very obvious and must have caused problems for surveyors?

First column I have seen with a slightly concave top surface. Looks like a partial collapse when constructed, or some sort of erosion.

Easily accessible on open access moorland. From the east not visible until reaching it as hidden behind large cairn. I came up from the car park at Black Hill. There was a narrow path to follow - once found! A lovely elevated moorland location with extensive views. Pillar is in good condtion with original plug with indented lettering. All four holes open.

Quite close to road near Eastby. A quick climb gets you there. Views are good on a day like today. Trig is next to a well built cairn.

It's nice up here with a good view in most directions, would be wonderful when the heather's in bloom. No mountain or motor bike tracks - brilliant! No cars, on foot! Revisited 20/05/2007.
