Second trig this evening before the rain came. Quick walk up the track to find it. Started to spit with rain so we didn't hang around as we could see the rain coming. Not great visibility, couldn't see the top of Ronas hill.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 15th September 1959, cost not on record. Computed by distomat survey as secondary triangulation station HU46/DM/11 within the Shetlands block during 1961. Levelled for height also in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in May 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from WSW. Parked by east side of A970 just north of track entrance at HU329754. The mapped track leads most of the way to the top, thereafter it is a near direct route across Vess Vird avoiding any boggy areas. Opan grazing top. Pillar off plumb, leaning SW but otherwise in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~241. Vented through SE sight hole. Full 360 panoramic view.

After buying some lunch in Brae I headed back up into Northmavine and parked at the entrance to the track leading up to the pillar. From here it was a short 750m walk with 72 metres of ascent past some unusually tame sheep to the trig. The pillar has a distinct lean to the SW but is otherwise perfectly intact. FB faces SW; SE sighthole open, all others plugged; metal cap with raised letters. Good views in all directions!

Difficult to decide what condition from the drop down list but I'd guess the TP could not be used in its present state so not good?

Delinquent animals in the background were seen running away from the TP and are the main suspects of the TP's condition. Investigations are continuing...

Good walk up through heather hill onto grassy top. A few wet patches to look out for but the views around the islands are worth it. Yes it does lean at an angle!
