Levelled for height in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in August 1984. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from NE, final approach from SW. Parked east side of road beside comms mast compound opposite Dialstone Farm at SE518843 because mapped car park at Sutton Bank wanted money. Walked bridleway to SE507837 then anticlockwise around gallops following field edges to approach trig from SW. Overgrown grassy tumulus in hay field. Pillar in fair condition, crazed with cracks. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces SSW ~209. Vented through NW sight hole. 360 open outlook.

So this slight detour was an opportunity to visit that was just too good not to miss. Followed the fence from the turn off suggested by others. Had to climb one fence and go through two electrified gates to reach the pillar on slightly raised area. Could not see the pillar until about fifty yards away because of the mist but knowing the area it is likely to be a good viewing point. Pillar in good condition.
