Parked in lay-by on west side of road, almost opposite sign for path to Grimspound. The sign post for footpath was just south of the gully. Headed east from there although path not obvious. Steady climb to south east as far as wall then more obvious path heading south and directly uphill. Effort rewarded with fantastic views although rain coming through at the time. Fabulous. Cap missing. Raised S prefix. Nobody else about, except a couple of cyclists when I was back at the car. The cairn at the top and the stone circle were interesting features. Followed the stone path from the circle back to the road. Wondered if it is an ancient path or more recent.

1/2 From pull-in near point where Two Moors Way crosses B-road to NNW of pillar. Easy walk up to pillar then continued across valley to east via Natsworthy manor to visit Esdon tor. Back via Coombe down. Usual problems of crossing farmland between blocks of open access land.

Princetown is a bleak and miserable village on Dartmoor with a fascinating history dating back to the early 1800s, however male companion more interested in local brewery and pillars. So Dartmoor Prison Museum cut short and appreciation of Grimspound Bronze Age Site went by in a wink. Visited the plane crash site on the retreat from this pillar. Gifted to non alcoholic beer, how they have progressed in the last few years. My go to the day after "the incident"....delayed shock is my excuse.

First trig on an east to west with DartmoorSheep. Hameldown is a beautiful ridge, a bridge between the centeral moor and east Assended from Kittys grave via the memorial stone for the crashed plane. Had lunch up here before decendng down to grimspound and then challacombe making 3 abandoned villages after visitng hounds tor.

Bit of a puff to get up here as nearly always to get to trigs BUT what views!!! Just below is the amazing Grimspound hut circles, and the Two Moors Way passes here. Excellent walks and excellent views!

1st trig on second day on Dartmoor. Lovely calm sunny prelude to later serious rain and wind. Quick run up from Firth Bridge, where can be found good parking and a benchmark rivet. Pillar covered with white and red painted graffiti and showning signs of weathering with number of fractures; plinth exposed. Cap missing, no plug; all sight holes open - probably weathering again. Extensinve 360deg moorland views. ***Re-visited in passing 22 June 2018. Graffiti now gone and even the cairn's been tarted up.

Our first Trig for over a year, nice to be back. Parked in the lay-by down by Firth Bridge and walked up to the Tor through Grimspound stone circle. Unfortunately the Trig was covered in graffiti. Enjoyed the view nearby while having lunch, then walked up to Hookney Tor on the return trip. Nice afternoon walk.

Visited for the umpteenth time from Widecombe but this time returned via the tors to the west of Hameldown and the Golden Dagger mine site.

Circular walk from Widecombe in the Moor, via Chinkwell Tor, Grimspound and this. Excellent views, particularly to north.

A retrospective log. Today (26/07/2017) I discovered some old walking notes. I remember this attempted walk well, for we'd started near Grimspound, but almost immediately the infamous Dartmoor mist had suddenly enveloped us. Carrying on was not an option with our two small children with us. Fascinating misty visit to Grimspound though.
