Struggled to access. Initially walked on coastal path and could see the pillar when stood on top of wall - in the far corner of field. As wall had barbed wire and we had dog with us, we had to continue walking round and onto the road. Lady from horse livery followed us across the field and advised there were no footpaths in the field. We explained we were trying to access the trig point and she allowed us to continue on through field after we assured her we wouldn't damage the fencing (as she advised keeps happening). Pillar located on other side of wall and fencing. Hubby managed to climb up wall to get photo of FB but we couldn't get into the same field.

Managed to find a route from the South West Coast Path, going north from the path to meet the south western corner of the field giving access to the trig. As previously mentioned, still had to navigate the boundary wall but there was evidence of previous access to the field and the barbed wire fence had been 'removed' from a small area. A diagonal walk up the hill brought me to the trig which sits elevated on the field boundary.

No problems with parking if you're staying in Polperro; it's just a matter of deciding whether to run up the lane and through the fields, or skip off the coast path to the south. Trig sits atop a junction of Cornish hedges, looking out over fields of sheep in all directions.

The pillar stands on a plinth at the junction of the hedging banks of fields above the cliffs to the west of Looe. I parked at Polperro, walked down through the village and then took coastal paths to reach the southern boundary of the field to the east of the trig. The hedging bank is a bit prickly but a space was found close to the trig to scramble up to examine the pillar. The pillar has FB S8004 and its spider is plugged with a metal cap with shallow lettering. From the top of the bank there is a wide view across the sea in the south. The Mevagissey Peninsula and the tower on Gribben Head could be seen in the west and the coast line toward Polperro with Whitsand Bay and Rame Head in the distance. To the north it looks over a landscape of rolling hills to the distant moors. The trig is within the South East Coast sector of the Cornwall AONB. The cliffs are spectacular and are part of the Polruan to Polperro SSSI and SAC and of course Polperro is exceptionally picturesque.

Found room to park in a field gateway (double gate). You can see the trig from the gateway, two fields away on a hedgerow to the south. Chris watched the car while I nipped around to the trig. The fields were planted, so I walked through adjacent fields to the west, keeping hedgerow to left, crossed two fields, then turned east to walk up to the trig. The trig is in the corner of the field on a dry stone wall, found an easy spot to scramble onto the wall a few yards short of the trig. (PS. Thanks to Mickandshane for your directions).

Up on a bank at junction of hedges, approached from the lane to Polperro and managed to cut knee on barbed wire ...most careless! Pillar in good shape. If you are facing east its best not to follow the road on in to Polperro as its limited access to cars ,very narrow and a bit embarrassing when you have your mirrors folded in and still cant make the gap. !

There were no views at the time of my visit as it was throwing it down with rain and very misty - which was probably beneficial for the route I took. We parked in a gateway between Raphael and Little Landaviddy Farm near spotheight 116 on the Explorer Map. Go through the gate keeping the hedgeline on your right and follow it until you come to another gate which gives access into the field with the trig. Go diagonally across this field and the trig is on the hedgebank in the far corner. No undergrowth to worry about but probably a bit exposed on a sunny day. The FB faces north which is a bonus, although the bank is easily climbable. Plug with indented lettering.
