Parked where footpath crosses road near church to Green Lane turn right along Kirton gate lane for some distance until it is completely block to progress then took to the field sides, not a good move took the south side of Bratt field road and you get blocked at each edge line. Should have gone the way everybody else along the edge of Harswell Wood.

Couldn't book a 3rd night at Woody's Top YHA, so rather than head home in the glorious weather, I opted to head for Hathersage YHA in the Peak District. It seemed opportune to try to reach this one on route. WROSE instructions spot on and an easy access. Too flat and boredered by large hedge for any views.

Joint visit with Carole.Even though the pillar is well and truely on private land thre is a good field track running north along the west side of the woodland from the road corner at SK 94499 88355. Continue as far as the corner to join an overgrown track?. Here go left then left twice more to reach the pillar. The pillar is in good condition but the plug is missing meaning that the interior of the pillar is open to the elements.

I have a bad memory but as far as I can remember there is NO PROBLEM getting to this trig.As Wrose says, park on road corner to south and just walk straight up west side of woodland to trig - simple. (Don't remember any left turns and it certainly wont take an hour!)

Saw the farmer in the yard and asked permission to drive along the green lane, he asked me if I was 'another one of those' lol. He told me that the last person to ask him was a retired Welsh school teacher. The lane is drivable in the right vehicle, but do not attempt it in a normal car.

GPS Position, Spider and Missing Plug Judging by the colour of the brass, this hasn\'t been missing too long... Grrrr

This must be one of the remotest spots in the area! The pillar is at the end of a LONG green lane, so any delusions I had about driving to it soon disappeared and it proved an excellent way to settle the Sunday lunch and pint had in Lincoln earlier on! The pillar is in a hedgeline between a newly-ploughed field and a field of winter cereals. Original plug with slightly-indented letters. Traces of paint. All sightholes below soil level. The long hike was made better by the larks, pheasants and banks of cowslips and there is a very interesting information board by the farm about the long-vanished village of Heapham. I deserved this one!
