Parked in a layby on the A624 just uphill from The Grouse. There is a stile at the northern end of the layby allowing access onto Chunal Moor. Headed roughly due East following a broad, cleared track through the heather. Pillar was not visible until I'd broached the plateau and then turned North towards what looked like the highest point. Trig must have had a nice coat of white paint some time in its past as the FB has been painted over. Cap has been replaced with tarmac and base is exposed on two sides but otherwise in good order. Continued SE from the pillar following an obvious trod through the heather until intersecting with a slabbed path (which I at first erroneously thought must be the Pennine Way). Turning East along the path I soon encountered an aircraft wreck over to my left. Only when I reached the cairn at Mill Hill did I realise my mistake. Now on the Pennine Way I headed SE to a junction of paths at ** before taking a splendidly scenic route down William Clough. Continued along the PROW above Kinder Reservoir eventually turning NW across Middle Moor to Tom Heys Farm. From there I took the permissive path northwards before finally emerging onto the A624 and a short stroll along the tarmac back to my car.

Been here before but this is a revisit to do an official log. Went up with two mates Paul and Tracker Dog on a walk to Kinder Downfall from the Grouse Inn catching the trig and two aircraft wrecks. Only saw one wreck and very little of the downfall as low cloud dropped with ruddy cold wind and even some snow. Trig in good condition painted white all over. Ok views north to Glossop.
