Parked on grass verge near water tower. This is strangely a very busy road and some sort of race track as the traffic along all go at breakneck speed. Walked along bridleway towards trig point, but at the edge of the wood go to the west side of the hedge line to find trig to avoid a deep ditch.

Apparently easy to reach along ROW, but initial gravel track became damp earth surface with consistency of glue. Brought to halt as it jammed between wheels and mudguards! Abandoned bike and walked, gaining platform shoes! On opposite side of hedge to ROW, but fortunately rape seed has been harvested.

Walked from the water tower - through the edge of Hayley Wood where possible to avoid the very boggy track. Arrived at the Trig on the wrong side of the ditch so backtracked to cross over at the field end. Discovered after visiting the pillar that someone has placed a plank to cross by a mere 30-40 yards further along.

It seems everywhere I go, Griefmeister was there a couple of weeks before.... The lane he mentions is the best way to get to this one and in the baking hot day I went, there was no boggyness left in the country lane. Interesting bit of old railway passed on the way up to the trig. This would have been part of the old Oxford-to-Cambridge line, of which only the Bletchley-to-Bedford section remains in operation. Trig has original plug with indented lettering and the concrete surface is showing signs of years of weathering.

Made a right pigs ear of this one. Had just done the geocache and then punched an incorrect diget into the GPS which meant I was looking 1000m to the west, at the wrong apex of the woods. I was composing my ‘possibly missing’ report and wandering back through the woods when I took a final look at the map and realised my mistake – more care needed Father Ted. It is all present and correct with a heard of fallow deer nearby trampling the crops.
