Drove to the trig, final 800m on a reasonable farm track but with a slightly raised central grassed strip. Raised verge with all sight holes now below ground level, needed to dig down to reveal lower section of the FB; original centre cap retained. Extensive flat farmland views.

(1042) Little Hale Drove is pretty uneven and in poor repair for good long stretches, so it was a case of taking it very steady to reach the location. Be even worse to travel down in the coming months, I'd imagine. As I arrived I happened to meet with the landowner, who readily allowed me to visit the pillar - it's just off the PRoW. He said I wouldn't drive down though If I was you. Being familiar with previous visitors logs, I said That's OK, I don't mind walking! Pillar soon reached (about a 5 minute walk each way), and all good.

I too drove to the pillar but had to keep a set of wheels on the central grassy ridge because of insufficient ground clearance. It is in good condition with all metalwork intact.

Walked along the track alongside the drainage channel to get to the pillar. Its all in one piece with original plug - slightly-indented letters. Traces of paint. Sightholes below soil level. OS anti-vandal plaque in place. Expansive flat views in all directions. A rather bleak and remote spot - perhaps that's why so few people have been!
