met the lady at high ground, although the pillar is not on her land she showed us the way and advised there might be walls to climb, crossed a couple of gates and a convenient vulnerable wire fence which is easy to squeeze through, through another rickety gate via untieing the rope ,this was the last hurdle,it was then a relatively short slog to the pillar!

All intact. Very windy with drizzle. Friendly farmer pointed the way. Don't follow the footpath behind the farmhouse - instead go down the track to the next farm back, cross the cattle grid and turn right, heading up the hill to the trig.

Meeting the farmer meant I thought I should ask if there was a path up to the top between the piles of cow dung. He didn't seem to want to be very helpful, but his wife said there was a concrete thing on a nearby hill and it would be alright to go up. The pillar with part of its base exposed is sited on a tussocky summit.
