Parked in lay-by near the access point for Alsop Wood looked after by the National Trust. Then an interesting route through numerous fields to locate the trig at the Tump summit. Many of the fields had recently been covered in slurry. I had to take a different route back to avoid a tractor spreading more slurry.

Access from A515, just South of the NT plantation. Metal gate in the wall open on my visit, follow up the track and first three fields have access points at wall boundaries, but ended up having to hope over two walls with secondary B/Wire. kept to the perimeter walls as the grass crop was looking ready to harvest. Managed to remain undetected but could imagine this being one where the farmer is most likely not to be too far away. Had to beat down the grass for FB log. Plug filled.

Got there eventually but sank through the snow at one stage into a freezing cold puddle underneath at one stage and got a boot full of water. Spare pair in the car fortunately.

Well it was either another day sitting in the sun or getting out for a bit of trigpointing. Id got a list of 11 that Id not logged above Ashbourne. Hawks Low was the second Id driven by Reynards farmers were making hay in the field near the pillar and using farm machinery on the single track road so I gave it a miss. Parked in the layby on the A515 (53.06.37 1.45.24) and negotiated the stone walls and barbed wire to the pillar. Dont think you can get there without jumping at least two obstacles. Good but unspectacular views on a clear day.

A joint visit with Carole. We parked in a large 'lay-by' at the southern end of the woodland on the A515. From here we went through a number of gates and gateways plus the od wall crossing to get to the pillar. In good condition but the original plug has obviously been replaced by an asphalt one some time in the past.
