First “bag” since joining. Parked near Stang Yule and went through the estate then followed prow up fellside. Then headed West towards trig. Very hard going through bogs/peat hags etc. Good views from trig point. Descended on shooters track to the South and skirted round to the North of the plantation back to Stang Yule where I discovered some better parking.

Yes most certainly dedicated to the memories/places of this pillar. I have been here before and was mentally scarred and forgot the lesson I learnt years back....from Fiendsdale Head follow the track to just below the pillar. Retreated this way and and pillar 11/12. Very large colonies of gulls nesting in various areas on the Dozen. "The Birds" kept flashing up in my brain, they were very protective of their nests. Ponged of bird sh*t too.

Parked on Delph Lane and walked up the side of Fell Plantation for what should have been a simple evening sortie on the Bleasdale shooting estate. My Bowland expert, Ian, thought the ground around the pillar had shrunk/sunk in recent years. Then he suggested dropping down to Arbour, which is one of the loveliest spots in the whole Forest of Bowland; delightful. Then he suggested looking for the remains of a plane crash on Stake House Fell (1949 C-54 Skymaster), . Eventually found on a ledge of the hillside. Dropped back down the River Calder and followed the fell wall back towards Stang Yule.. Then we ran out of daylight and finished the walk fighting the rushes , heather, bracken and unseen bogs in the dark. All good fun.
