Glorious if gloomy views from the Black Mountains to the Staffs hills. Caer Caradoc, Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge - nice view out at a lot of the walks to be done. Can see this hill with it's mast from the Herefordshire border I reckon, rewarded by a small flock of starlings.

Parked at foot of access track to mast. 5 min stroll to pillar. Lovely views 360. Clee Hills clear and into Welsh foothills. Nesscliff hill visible. Spectacular view to CS, Longmynd, Caer Caradoc, Hope Bowdler Hill - our start point of the day. Many more to bag in this area.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 5th April 1949 costing 10.1s.2d. Computed as fourth order station SO59/T40 during 1949. Levelled for height to Class 1 tertiary standards in 1951. Last maintained by the OS in June 1982. SITE VISIT: Parking in layby on east side of B4371 at SO468931. Climbed the unclassified road on foot until almost reaching the track to the mast, stopping at the Church Stretton FBM. Continued up the track to the mast which passes the pillar. Open grazing top. Column in good condition. Spider is fitted with plastic disk, installed by Jon Rouse 18/07/2004. Flush bracket faces east, compass measurement 80. Vented through west sight hole. Full 360 panoramic view.

Easy walk up track from FBM. Trig next to mast and old ROC post with the lid off. Didn't fancy climbing down inside the bunker. Good clear views.

Very fine views, sunshine but cold in the strong NW wind. Hill high point a little further west. R.O.C. bunker accessible - I think I'd have preferred to have taken my chances in something with a view rather than cooped up underground in such a confined sace.

Easy enough to get to. Beside the track which leads to the mast, I just had to climb the gate down by the road (opposite the FBM) Apart from the mast eyesore, the views are good in all directions.

Hill/trig bagging day in Shropshire bagged The Wrekin and Stiperstones earlier that day. Easy walk from road, discovered the FBM on way up, didn't know it was even there, bonus!

Fabulous views on a gloriously clear day. The Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc and various other hills all lit with the wonderful golden light you get in SpringA quick wander up the track from the Church Stretton FBM. Shame about the transmitter mast which rather spoils the view to the west...

An easy pillar to access especially when like me you work on the radio towers. The hill here presents fantastic views over the valley to the Long Mynd with Church Stretton in between. To the east north-east is a fantastic view of the Caradoc one of Shropshires finest hills.

Great views on this unseasonably warm day. I didn't risk driving up the narrow track but parked at the bottom which made no difference as I did a circular walks over the tops up to Causeway Wood trig and back.

An easy walk up from the FBM, following the track to - guess what? - YES! A mobile-phone mast!! The pillar has a plastic plug replacement and quite a lot of residual white paint. The base protrudes about 3" above the grass in a field full of what else but sheep! All views holes are open.Wonderful all-round views but ruined by the mast. These things are like triffids; they get everywhere.

Just up a short track from the benchmark. Pillar in good condition, just the odd cracking surface concrete, but without a plug. Amazing view. Black Mountains, Cheshire Plain and the Clees. Long Mynd and Caradoc blocking off some directions. Church Stretton just below.
