From end of public road at Upper Neepaback (HU 5244 8026). Track initially, then peeled off for the trig. Pillar retains an original centre cap; rear sight hole open, RHS plug beginning to degrade. Good views across to Stack of the Horse, my next stop, where I declined to downclimb the cliffs.

I was staying at the excellent Burravoe Marina campsite with the family and after an afternoon of pouring rain and setting up a tent it finally cleared in the evening. So I took the dog with me and we set off following the marked route up to Ramnageo where we easily found the pillar.

Metal cap, wide raised letters. Parking at road end. Nice coastal location, walk N a short way for superb cliff scenery. Then spent an entertaining hour or so finding a way to the summit of Stack of the Horse, a mile along the coast.

A short and mildly soggy walk from Upper Neepaback between showers. The pillar has a GPS plaque; FB faces WSW; metal cap with thick raised letters; ENE sighthole open, others plugged. Great views with Shetland Mainland, Fetlar, Unst and Out Skerries (including lighthouse TP9662) all visible. Rumble Rocks Beacon (TP8866) is also visible from here.

Final of three consecutive flush bracket numbers for the day (10575-10577). I followed the coast south from Gossabrough, passing by the twin sea arches of the Horse of Burravoe as I went. Once I’d logged the trig I descended directly to Burravoe village, reluctantly headed back to Shetland Mainland.
