Drove the track to HU 4516 2859. Pleasant walk out to the trig from there. Pillar retains original centre cap, raised lettering; front and rear sight holes open. Some half decent views given the low cloud and dreich weather. Final day on Shetland, quick round up of last few pillars.

I parked beside the entrance to the track at Greenmow (HU 4450 2888). The track leads uphill slightly and then descends again, becoming very wet and quite overgrown. I crossed the gate onto the soggy grassland and walked another 600m to reach the pillar. Quite an exposed position with a very interesting outlook up and down the eastern Shetland coastline. FB faces SW; SW & NE sightholes open, others plugged; original top with raised letters (someone has scrawled some initials and date of 1982 in the centre). As I set off for the return walk I almost immediately got caught in a rain shower and I ran for cover beside the stone walls of the ruined buildings nearby! Proving the theory that every cloud has a silver lining, however, I managed to capture a full double rainbow on camera, and a pretty good photo of the Northlink ferry heading for Aberdeen.

A good, straightforward but muddy walk from Greenmow. Cold wind from the north but sun making it reasonably warm on this day.

View NE from Helli Ness trigpoint Fisheries Protection vessel and the island of Bressay. Brassa trigpoint at the base of the aerials.
