There was a parking area at end of road.took the bridle path. Pleasent walk with views to find the trig in the woods.a quick hop over a Brocken gate.just in time before a work man was on patrol to clear the byway ready for the 3pm blast at the quarry. We said our car was in the parking area, the reply was danger area 🙂 All was well!

Out and about in the area geocaching and was actually walking up the newly-made bridlepath presumably created by/for the huge newish adjacent tungsten mining industry. Sadly trig is now on private land but a quick nip over the wooden gate into the woods accesses the trig within a few very safe yards. Trig in good condition. No views from it but the aforesaid bridlepath gives excellent views towards Plymouth.

The trig point is behind a locked gate but I am sure that if you stay away from the quarry workings you will be safe in the woods. Good condition

Wolf Minerals have built a new path direct to the Trig. There is a locked gate between you and the trig but only a distance of 5 metres away. great views on approach. lots of trees near trig but a lovely area.

Walked up the uneven watery footpath from the Hemerdon village road, passing sheep-filled fields, and then passing into woodland. Sad to report, but some of the woodland is now 'out of bounds' because of ramorum disease which is killing larch trees. Many have already been cut down. No direct path up to the trig, but a fairly easy find nonetheless for the pillar is within the not too extensive trees of Hemerdon Ball. Good condition with plug intact. On return saw a young fallow deer who didn't seem too perplexed by my presence.

Suggestion - take trousers. Left thoroughly scratched and with numerous ticks. Worth going though, as we approached a small group of deer including a stag dispersed into the bracken. No longer any easily visible path although there are posts - ended up relying heavily on GPS. Nearby to Delta Force paintballing so the ground is littered with paintballs. The trigpoint itself is now inside the woodland, the entrance to which is marked by a yellow tiopped post. Worth the effort.

Walked up from the east, through paint balling area - judging by the number of paint balls on the ground, this footpath could be an interesting walk if the paintballers were using that area. Last 500m were through bramble/bracken - difficult if you're wearing shorts! Trig is in good condition just inside the woods.

I approached from the NW, parking in a large gateway and following the old mining track that twists its way around the extensive bracken and gorse up the hill. Looks like Brisey had better weather than me, but I wonder if he saw 2 x green woodpeckers?

It's still there!

We parked at the road junction at the top of Ledgate Lane and took the minor track going off north west (blocked by a rusting tractor). The track is very overgrown but once you reach the disused quarry it's easy going to the small wood. Plug with indented lettering.

Can be reached by a footpath running west from the lane at SX 576579. After the field, some waymark posts lead up the scrubby area to the summit wood. The pillar is just within the wood. The views westward over Plymouth are superb. Few vestiges of paint on the pillar remain.
