A walk in the Brecon Beacons which took in Carreg Cadno 538m, Fan Gyhirych 726m, Fan Nedd 663m, Yr Allt 605m, Fan Bwlch Chwyth 603m and Fan Fraith 668m. Not a great forecast but clear summits until Yr Allt which were the important ones, and only rain on the last one. Some great views and scenery. In the cloud here but before the rain!

A reasonable trig. Good condition, not as pretty as the other ones nearby which have distinguishing paint making them feel more unique.

Nice walk from the nearby minor road, explored the old Heol Senni quarry, now a SSSI. Then a steep climb up to the trig pillar, quite boggy nearby, even in June. Followed the wall down, much quicker, there is a stile this way too (climbed over a barbed wire fence on the way up, I'm only 5ft 4, so not ideal!). 205m of ascent, lots of sheep and lambs around.

3/3 today. Parked at end of quarry road and followed it up to bag Fan Gyhirych, then Cambrian Way over to bag Fan Nedd. Then back down to valley and up across the ridge of Fan Bwlch Cywyth to the Heol Senni trig. Beacons to the right and Llyn Y Fan Fawr to the left. Stunning views all around. Trig in good condition, spider and FB intact!

Revisit today no changes except remembered to make sure phone was charged with enough battery to take photographs this time. First visit 23/5/21 Sitting in a small moat today. Spider, Flush Bracket in place but Plug/cap missing holes filled. Trig otherwise in good condition. Parked at entrance to quarry road, just past house up a track, room for parking to the side for individual cars without causing an obstruction, 30 minutes up to trig following fence/wall and then over stile at the top and then following the well walked, wet trail to trig. About 10 minutes from style. Just made it before the rain came in!

Bus to Cray then road and rough FP to Penwaundwr and climbed hill along fence line to pillar. Stunning weather, a new record UK temperature for February but recorded near London but hazy at a distance today after yesterdays clarity and windy up top. Alot of foundation showing. Follow crest S to Fan Nedd.

Road still closed but managed to drive as far as forestry track and walked up from there then along edge of Forest and straight up across the mid wales desert to Trig. Pillar in good condition with base exposed and in it s own moat. Plug missing. Then found the Vulcan crash site.

Parked near the cattle grid W of the trig as the road was closed preventing me parking at my planned spot at the start of the forestry track a little further NE. Walked up said track then followed the edge of the forest before hacking across rough ground to the trig. Excellent view.

Trig sits atop Fan Bwlch Chwyth, which would like to be a Simm, but can't quite manage it! Parked on minor road 1.8k to WNW. Good access track initially then rough boggy ground to the top. Pillar vgc with small moat surrounding it and exposed foundation; top cap has been lost, no plug. Low cloud clearing with sun trying to break through gave some interesting light.

Parked on track at Penwaundwr (SN908228). Walked up steep climb alongside fence. At top, over stile and followed fence-line S and then W. At SN911213 found remains of crashed Vulcan aircraft. Beautiful, clear day, and being alone there was very moving. N to TP. Great views in all directions, but actual TP site is uninspiring. Tracked E down hillside to follow BW N to ruins of old stone quarry and buildings cut into side of Fan Bwlch Chwyth, then on track NW to car.

A good walk up from the quarries further south. Couldn't find the Vulcan crash site though. It has all been cleared away I guess.

About 250m to the southeast a Vulcan Bomber (XH536)crashed into the hillside on the 11th Feb 1966. All 5 crew were killed.

On the formerly out of bounds part of the Cnwer estate but now access land lovely brisk pull up from the cattlegrid on the Cnwer-Heol Senni road. Plug gone but no other problems now onward to the main tops
