Our second TP on a damp day. Struggled to find anywhere decent to park close to the FP so ended up at the bottom of the slope opposite the farm entrance. Up tot he style and then followed the FP. Initially took the path down by the barbed wire fence but this proved impassable because of brambles etc...it was the wrong way anyhow. Turned back and carried on the FP past the style into the adjacent field then at the end of the wooded area the pillar is clearly visible a few feet into the field. Nice setting with good views. Planned a beer in the Sour Nook Inn, but alas, it looked well closed.

A 7 for a pillar numbered 7000. It deserved it anyway, being next to a very interesting hole in the ground aka limestone quarry and I imagine the views being OK if the weather had been better.

A storm prevented us from walking on the fells, so we embarked on a round of trig-bagging from Greystoke. Parked off the road, and walked up through the muddy wooded track to the disused quarry. Pillar sits atop the spoil with a view across farmland. It has a lot of salt dispersion and heavy weathering but is otherwise fine.

Walked the track on the SW edge of Quarry to gate out into field. Trig point on small mound behind a small tipping area.

From road to SSE on RoW initially then skirted edge of quarry to find pillar in a fallow field margin. Top cap has been lost, replaced with asphalt plug; RHS sight hole open. Extensive views N and W, other directions obscured by trees.

Nice little walk trig in vgc as we pulled up a gyrocopter passed by overhead i quipped that james bond 007 had just flown over.This was the seventh trig of the day and was numbered 7000 gave it a mark of 7 to continue the theme!

At the edge of an old quarry in a local conservation area. As the gate was open rather than following the PROW took the track through the quarry, another gate led to the field containing the pillar. Again dry underfoot today so kept dry all day. Decent views.

The view from the trig is pretty boring unless you like sheep. The approach path is better as it skirts around a LNR in an old limestone quarry.

a northern end of an old quarry. The contour ring to the south must represent a 240 metre ring for the depression rather that a 260m that one might see looking on the map!!

Down the lane, parked in gate. 'Don't block the gate,' says Pam. 'Move up a bit. I have to wait here whilst you visit. The farmer might come.' So I move up, dropping my nearside front into deep mud. No way was it coming out! It's the sort of lane that has one car per day - and the post van came by. He got the farmer, he brought his tractor and rope, and I was £20 lighter. I'll live and learn! Pillar is round the back of the quarry, and fine

Its mid summer so the path is overgrown and care needs to be taken not to stray too close to the edge of the quarry. There was a freshly dead sheep in foeld with the trig in it with flies just gathering.

Located in recently-mown field north of quarry. Parked on verge and followed footpath sign. Stiles are in excellent condition, footpath is a wilderness ! Extensive views all round - Scotland and the Solway Firth, the Pennines and The Lakeland fells. A lovely part of Cumbria which is not overcrowded.We returned via the fields which have good gates.

At the end of a nature conservation area which is the old quarry. Use the pedestrian gate sooner than go down the public footpath. Good views of the Caldbeck Fells. Tarmac plug.
