Parked in High Crompton and took the PROW from Mossgate Road. This was extremely wet and slippy, but higher up a short climb up pleasant pastures led to the trig. Good views all round from here.

Marked as damaged as the pillar is starting to lean! its base is being worn away by animals... it is however, in good condition and complete with the plug on the tube still in place!

Visited on a short (rather pleasant) 2 mile circular walk from High Crompton Park. The fb looks very good, the pillar 'rounding' a little at the top. Revisited on 29/04/23, not realising that I'd already been here.

Trig 5 of an 8 trig night run , do this one in the day or you will spend 20 minutes running round a field of sheep looking for the trig.

From Milnrow up the excellent cobbled Garside farm track. Sheep pasture and extensive all-round views on a cold but sunny morning, no snow but ground frozen hard. Pillar has a distinct lean.

The Crompton Circuit and Rochdale Way skirt this pillar, and both Oldham and Rochdale need to be commended on the excellent signage on these trails. Lots of mud from snow melt on these lower slopes so didnt linger too long. The 3/4 pillars en route today are for parents juggling work/home schooling. Cant imagine what it must be like for them. My idea of a nightmare.

Boggy trek up from Rochdale way, Trig in the middle of a mud bath, slight damage to one of the top corners and also starting to lean probably due to soft ground. Does still retain its centre cap and has great views from all around

Quite a muddy hike up from the Rochdale Way off Moss Gate Road. The Corner of the pillar is chipped off. Plug intact. A little something left on one of the hooks ;)

from moss gate road , up awkward enclosed path which improved in trigs field. trig was surrounded by a dried up moat . returned by following the rochdale way south and back west along moss gate road , lots of signage warning of aggressive cows with calves and bull in field, none of which were seen.

I've been to a few trig points down the years but this is my first official log! It's also my most local to home. A lovely evenings walk up from Pit Lane, not a soul in sight across the fields up to the pillar. A beautiful evening, clear as a whistle, giving great views over to Manchester, Jodrell Bank, Win Hill and the Peaks and the Rossendale plateau. A much needed release in these times of lockdown. Hopefully the first of many logs!

A frosty sunny morning was probably a good time to visit, as the ground gave the impression of being pretty boggy, but was still solid enough to avoid squelching today. Tried the FP from the SW first but it became a stream and with a hole in my footwear I retreated walked E along the potentially muddy iced BW and approached along the waymarked path from the SE instead where a new track has been built to a smelly heap. Sheep and cattle grazing the summit. The view is excellent but the trig itself seems to be sinking into the moor and the porridged ground that immediately surrounds it. It has a slight lean and a small chunk missing off one of the top corners.

Good to finally got to this Oldham UA TuMP at last, for fabulous sunset from the SW on ROW and for the second time today across a field with cows, calves and a bull, which growled menacingly as I passed by 50metres away, cautiously. On my return after a glorious sunset two cows and calves had come nearer across the route I'd walked up. I went over to the other far side of the field and yet again the bull let out a continuing low growl, but didn't move at all. Phew!

HISTORY: Pillar completed 17th April 1940 costing £4.2s.9d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD80/T51 during 1945. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision at tertiary standards in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked in Brellafield Drive, SD928099. Followed RoW along single track Moss Gate Road then onto mapped RoW at SD928101. This leads all the way to the trig. In grazing field on RoW, the mapped fence beside the trig is no longer there. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces SSE, compass measurement 159°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view.. Part of a 24 trig stint around the northern outskirts of Manchester.

Another of those "edgeland" trigs, p[ark at Jubilee Colliery car park - up through the surprisingly pleasant woods then to the cows - who have made the field suitably entertaining to squelch across. Great views from West to Southern Pennines

A simple walk up from the housing area to the South East ish. THe initial path wasn’t entirely sure if it was a path or stream, but there was not too much water. A great unbroken 360 degree view.

Continuing on a theme. (The Jubilee looked a bit, well, naff.) So different to the last one. Some very unromantic high farmland, but - baby horses (by the score), baby dogs, baby sheep, baby hens, even baby donkeys! Awwwwwww! Then called in at that place in Dobcross that has a different name on the sign to that on the doors. Good pint. Or two. Note: Can't comment if the pillar has been moved - but the wall certainly has. Astride a mass of stones now.

Metal plug [indented letters]. Top damaged & pillar leaning. Private. Owner unknown [there doesn't seem to be an actual Hey Farm - nearest is Bryney Heyes]. In muddy field - no real sign of nearby RoW on the ground; either wall removed or trig actually moved. Redeemed by Pennine backdrop.

Open pasture site, next to wall, but with excellent views all round. Good condition, original plug, Public. Tow horses nearby to make a good picture, and a farm labourer to ask if the pillar had moved in the last 70 years! He'd seen other going up to it, so Trigpointing is now catching on!

An out-of-the-way trig tucked behind a wall. Best views to the N (Blackstone Edge etc). Quite rural to say it's surrounded by built-up-area.

On fairly flattish hilltop of fields and walls. Just off the footpath which at this point is part of the Rochdale Way, the Oldham Way and the Crompton Circuit. Views over Rochdale, Oldham and surrounding hills. Trig has a bit of its top corner chipped off.
