First trig of 2024! This one is on top of a nice hill, with good views to the north. On the South Downs Way (In this section a restricted byway) with a little footpath going straight through the middle of it. A nearby pillbox (I think) is to the left of it. Although it has some graffiti on it, it was a good find. I recommend parking at Cocking village and following the South Downs Way over to it or it can easily be found if you are planning to do the South Downs Way.

A couple of miles east of the car park where the South Downs Way crosses the road between Singleton and Cocking. Bit muddy being December. Trig point is in a field, but fairly easy to find.

From Heyshott, steep pull up onto top of Heyshott Down. Pillar has exposed foundations from soil erosion and minor chipping to top edges. Original cap retained, deeply indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Lovely 360deg panorama, N to North Downs particularly good.

Nice walk up from car park near Cocking. Cold day with a covering of snow and ice on the high ground. We watched the gliders flying overhead or perhaps they were watching us. Great views up here. Trig safe and sound. Activated Trigpoint for WAB net

From Cocking Church I walked up the increasingly steep Manorfarm Down, through a dark and slightly eerie wood to reach the South Downs Way. As I climbed higher, there appeared pockets of ice and snow; also it was extremely muddy. The top of Heyshott Down was beautifully & completely snow-covered, which came as a surprise for, typically, Southampton (from whence I came) has had no snowfall, and I wasn't aware that neighbouring Sussex had any. I crunched my way across the ice & snow to reach pillar s4055 which was in good condition with metal cap intact. Fine wintry views to the north.

I parked near Moor Farm in Heyshott to the north. Then took the direct steep route up to the pillar. It is in good conditioned and obviously well liked as a scratching post by the fields' animal inhabitants. It is in good condition and still retains an original metal indented lettered plug. A very nice location and very well worth the trouble it took to get up here.

Fabulous sunny day, great views to north, TP in vg condition bar some erosion round base. Visited whilst also following part of Goldsworthy Trail - if you like lumps of rock as interesting outdoor sculptures in an attractive setting try the latter (easy to find on google)!

Pillar, flush bracket and spider all in very good condition. Some grafitti scratched onto the side of the pillar and slight erosion around the south side of the pillar base. GPSr gave elevation 236m.

Set on a slightly eroded concrete plinth, but otherwise in good condition. Lovely views. Easy access from the footpath. Metal plug with heavily indented lettering.

Amazing area covered with medievil chalk pits - the side of the down looked a bit like a bombing range. Just off the South Downs Way. Slight erosion around the base.
