So delighted to bag this one today, having had an abandoned attempt back in July 2019 due to heat exhaustion. Anyhoo today I opted to approach from the east, with the short ascent up through Pullscar Plantation and the rather dodgy rocky track. When we arrived at the summit there was atmospheric low cloud all around however patience prevailed and the sun came out and wow the scenery was absolutely stunning. Extra bonus points for this trig being of the local stone type construction, love these so much. Wonderful to get another Lakeland trig in the bag at long last <3

Superb route via Yew Tree Tarn, Holme Fell (Birkett), Hodge Close Quarry then Black Fell pillar. Both Birketts just over 1,000 feet, but quality. Talking of numbers and there significance - 12.23.48. Gifted today's pillar to a very, very satisfactory and jaw dropping arrangement of numbers.

What a superb pillar this one is, such an underrated spot! We parked in the wide lay-by at Colwith Brow and headed south towards Low Arnside. The OS mapping doesn't really do a great job of this area, there are lots of good paths and bits of wall all over the place - we could clearly see the pillar from a fair way back, so followed one of these undescribed trods east, through a gate and straight up the fell to the trig. It commands magnificent 360 degree views, particularly to Wetherlam, Holme Fell, Windermere and Coniston, a really stunning place. The stonebuilt pillar is in fine condition, especially considering it is 72 years old. Pillar #57 for my little companion. We headed down via Iron Keld plantation and the Cumbria Way - a fine outing.

Parked in lay by near Oxen Fell. Took a path to High Arnside farm and a bridle way to a footpath. Took this path for a while then headed eastwards towards the summit. Hard going as there are no paths but well worth the effort. Tremendous views from the top and would have given 10 but for a little cloudiness. The NT plaque indicates this is Black Crag. On returning through High Arnside farm, the farmer informed me that if I had carried on the path, there is a path just at the edge of the wood leading to the pillar. This may have saved me some effort!
