A tranquil bank holiday jaunt after a stressful visit to IKEA on a soggy Sunday. My former self would not have walked a circular from Ambleside on the western side of Windermere, however surpassed my expectations and my quarry was this pillar, which is surrounded by a lot of storm damage. Plan A worked. Take the N/S path to the east, at Low Blind How bear W for a couple of hundred metres. Look for logging tyre tracks gently ascending to just below the pillar, mission accomplished. It stands proud with 360 degrees panoramic views. Worth the effort. Gifted to all the English bluebells in the woods, so dainty and shy in comparison to the foreign ones on steroids.

A nice walk up to the trigpoint from the car park at Red Nab (on the banks of Windermere to the north). There is a path/track all the way to the top. Walk then took us on to Far Sawry and then back north along the track by the lake. Would never have thought to go for a walk in this area, but it was well worth it with some good views and a nice walk back along the side of the lake.

I was leading a family group of 35 on a walk up here. It was therefore a bit embarassing that I could not find the trig point. I resorted to using a GPS whilst they all sat down and had lunch. Found it after about ten minutes and then realised I had not made a note of the grid reference where they were having lunch! I'm just glad mobile phones have been invented.

Very enjoyable walk up from Near Sawrey passing Moss Eccles Tarn and Three Tubs Tarn, where theres a boat house (very strange for such a small tarn) the trig sits on a rocky outcrop which forms a sort of picnic table and chairs! No views due to mist but plenty of wild life about. My penultimate Cumbrian Trig of to get the last one now. Great Stickle

We parked at Far Sawrey and took the track that heads off behind the pub, opposite the village hall (where there is parking). The path was a bit confusing in the woodland but if you follow the sign for Hawkshead you will evetually arrive there - there's a small fingerboard for the viewpoint. The pillar is of local stone and in good conditon. Tarmac plug. View partially obscured by pine trees.

Parked at the village hall in Far Sawrey for a small fee. Path opposite leads north through the woodland, and on to the trig point via a side path. Wet and muddy, but pleasant walk nonethless.

Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed in August 1949, cost not on record. In 1950 this marker was computed for triangulation as secondary station SD47/20 in the Barrow-in-Furness block. Flush bracket S5641 was levelled for height also in 1950. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in June 1976. Stone built job. Original OS spider centre plug gone - plugged with tar.
