I wandered up the lane into the farmyard scanned cursoraly at the field boundary to the north left and right as I did so and asked the farmer, who was there where the trig pillar was. He pointed over my shoulder with a smile. It was right there in the farmyard about 4-5 metres behind me staring me in the face, too obvious to see when my initial focus had been beyond and over it!!!

Parked at the end of the lane and walked into the farmyard. The farmer Philip Warkup was out walking and stopped for a chat – I introduced him to the joys of trigpointing and he said that the last time he could remember the pillar being use was by a group of Army cadets on some form of exercise – I promised him that I could bring him fame by getting his photo on the Internet. Many thanks to him for an interesting conversation – hope I persuaded him to look after the monument.

Pillar is part hidden by farmyard clutter including a large grindstone which leans against it and covers the flush bracket. To photograph the latter it was necessary to wheel the stone aside and remove an accumulation of cobwebs etc.! How do you answer a polite enquiry "Are you looking for someone?" - "I'm collecting Trigpoints" may be factually right - but ....! Especially if you add " I promise not to take it away"

The pillar hidden by a grindstone
The plate Some of the cobwebs remain!
