Today temperatures were expected to exceed 30°C during the latest heat wave. So, I made a 7am start to hike in the Mosal Head area to avoid the highest temperature. Following the hike I drove the short distance to the access road, close to the disused quarry and then completed a short hike to what remains of this pillar. There is no longer any brasswork. It would have taken a significant effort to cause this damage and you have to wonder who would have had the tools to do that in such a remote location. The options seem to be very limited. Good panoramic views including views of Monsal Head.
