Visited the 3 Birketts above Thirlmere dam and after the 1st Birkett I was on my own until the outskirts of Keswick.....now that's saying something on a fine day in August. Only visited this pillar and Bleaberry in the old days collecting Wainwrights. A lot drier underfoot than I remembered and a good path west of the fence line connects High Seat and Bleaberry. One of those days where the vista can bring tears to your eyes and your the only person in God's backyard. I must dedicate this pillar to worms, not the type that comes out of your bottom either. After days agonising that my new allotment didn't have any, the red ones surfaced. Exciting or what?

The pillar is a stonebuilt beauty with magnificent views in every direction - it was a swampy struggle to reach, but worth the effort. Replacement cap aside, it is in fine condition. Stunning.
