My 50th trig! Parked in a layby opposite the entrance to Wheeldon Tree Cottages. Took the footpath to the base of the hill, and followed the well trodden path to the summit. Whilst no official path, enough trig hunters have visited to carve a set of foot holds up the side, making the climb slightly easier. Fantastic views, though quite exposed to the wind at the top.

Ten trigs bagged on the way to and around Buxton with a total of thirteen miles hiked for the day. This was the seventh and easily my favourite of the day. Already on high ground I parked on the verge near to Wheeldon Trees Cottages to see the pillar perched on the top of the adjacent steep hill. I took the PROW for the short walk to the top with great views of other peaks along the Ridge and the valley. In some ways I found it reminiscent of Edale Valley. The pillar is the stone type and is in good condition albeit the original centre for the spider has been replaced with a plain disc. It has commemorative plaque confirming the pillar was gifted to the National Trust and honours the memory of the fallen in WW2 from the Derbyshire & Staffordshire area.

Like many of the hills around here, High Wheeldon is rather imposing and very steep. Stone built pillar in good condition with plastic cap and a memorial plaque. Excellent views, particularly to the reef knolls of Chrome and Parkhouse Hills. Now heading over to Sheen Hill.
