Parked by housing on South Cathkin Farm (NS 6242 5783). Asked and farmer happy to let me go up, through very muddy horse paddocks. Original centre cap retained, lightly indented lettering; front site hole plug degrading, LHD side sight hole open, the other 2 sealed. Extensive views N, just the landscaped landfill site to see S. NB. For the hill bagger, there is a way under the fencing close to the trig for access into the landfill site to bag the hill.

Parked to the south near Highflat farm where there is room for three cars. Followed the nature reserve path around to NS622574 where there is a small path up to a gate in the chain link fence. The gate latch is welded shut but this makes it easier to use the latch as a foot hold and climb over it. Followed the tracks on the old landfill site to the trig and then under the fence where it was a bit loose. Return the same way.

Parked at the equestrian place and thought it was going to be a straightforward walk up the hill but the "old" track now ends at a high fence and made the mistake of initially trying to get round to the right but had to come back and go through the short thorny woodland and through the fence then up the field. I can confirm that the electric fence near the trig is in good working order.

Parked at the nature reserve and walked round towards the stables. Passed a lot of bird watchers... must have been something special there today? Approached the stables and was faced with a field full of horses. Walked round and through the stables to a lane that led to the trig field. Opened the gate and carefully followed the lane's electric fence avoiding the large muddy puddle (which was almost frozen solid). Only one horse in the trig field, so quickly made our way passed it and up the hill for photos. Didnt want to hang around incase more appeared!

This encounter distracted CJO and he got zapped crossing the electric fence to the pillar. BSM type. Agree adjacent TUMP is in the adjacent landfill site.

Log #214. Parked the car on the verge in front of the cottage at NS624577, and followed the muddy track. Didn't fancy pulling myself over the higher wire fencing, so I opted to push through the jaggy woodland and through the much simpler 5-wire fence. Two steps after climbing through the fence, I slipped in the mud and got clarted all up one side. Never mind. Walked up to the trigpoint, which is in good condition with the cap intact and the west-facing sighthole open. Don't believe access from SE is possible, and I think the nearby TuMP is also off the cards without trespassing into nearby landfill operations. Had some unexpected but very welcome visitors from Durham just as I was leaving. Just reading CJO's log now, and didn't realise the fence was electrified, sorry about that! Flush bracket faces SSE, ~163°. Distant views to west and north, southern aspect is blocked as this summit is now overtopped by a landfill site.

Parked at the end of the "private road" and nipped through a small copse of trees to get to the trig itself. Beware electric fences - looked like they were switched on but decided not to test the theory.
