This was always one I thought I would do between buses from Halbeath P&R but today, unusually, I had transport and was travelling home from Edinburgh. The M9O Northbound was closed though so I came off at Inverkeithing and headed for Hill of Beath and followed up with a walk up Bishop Hill. It was very blustery on Hill of Beath, I could barely stand but other wise an easy enough walk from a carparking spot at NT146896. The cap was missing but otherwise the pillar seemed in good condition. I didn't hang around as it was near imposible to stand up. On the way back down I was able to gather some sloes for making sloe gin. The wind lessened considerably for my next walk.

As I strolled up the Hill Of Beath I glanced over to the north-east hoping for a glimpse of Central Park home of the famed 'Blue Brazil', but to my intense disappointment couldn't quite see it, so had to amuse myself with alternative views. Pillar fine with open cap next to a square stone creation.

Good condition pillar atop the drumlin-esque Hill of Beath. FB faces south-ish with all sightholes closed. Cap missing and no replacement plug. Odd stone thing nearby along with what I think are the remains of the Naval Beacon intersected station. Accessed from the east along the obvious paths. Superb 360 views from the top.

Parked at end of track going S from minor road out of Kingseat and followed it over the M-way. The sensible option is then to circle round clockwise a bit, past the gorse and steep slopes. The brainless option is to barge straight up, like me. Pleasant Yeaman summit.

Numerically the last pre BsM, built 30th October 1943 the same day as nearby S3200, numerically the first BsM. It has been confirmed that S3170 to S3199 do not exist on trig pillars. Secondary station in Block NT18, Dunfermline. Pillar VGC, extra concrete been poured around base to combat erosion. Spider centre is open and vertical tube is filled with stones, rubble and other misc crap almost to the top. Flush bracket faces south to West Cairn Hill, levelling staff holders destroyed. All sighting holes plugged. A non trig stone built pillar stands nearby, incomplete topograph? Felled mast nearby. Views to Benarty Hill, West Lomond, East Lomond, Largo Law, Pilkham Hills, North Berwick Law, Orrock Hill, Lammer Law, Arthurs Seat, Allermuir Hill, Scald Law, West Cairn Hill, Castlandhill Resr, Tinto, Cocklerue Hill, Keirsbeath Ridge, Dumyat, Knock Hill, Dumglow. First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 30th October 1943 costing 5.17s.9d. In 1946 this pillar was computed for triangulation as secondary station NT18/17 in the Dunfermline block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1965. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in October 1987. Fantastic view across Forth to Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills.
