Parked at large barn near Moorcroft house (no one home other than two loose dogs). Track on map in the imagination of the map maker and ground is very boggy under foot but we got there and back without being swallowed up.

Centre piece still sitting proud and upside down. Walked up from nearby Comms mast through heather, field then heather again. A welly boots wander to the bleak summit. Open views over land and sea I know well (hence generous 8/10). Pillar in fine condition.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 7th April 1952 costing £23.0s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station ND25/T11 in 1952. Levelled for height in 1954. Last maintained by the OS in June 1981. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked by entrance to mast compound at ND282380. Followed mapped fencelines NNW for ~300m and ENE for ~450m. Heather clad grazing moor. Pillar in good condition. As already on record, some joker has inserted the plug upside down, presumed to have deeply indented lettering akin to its neighbours. Flush bracket faces SSE, ~158°. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view.

Met the owner of the nearby house as I was driving in along the track. Seemed a bit suspicious of my motives for coming up my drive and my "I'm just looking for something" response didn't seem to help matters. When I explained I was looking for the trig point she knew what I meant and pointed me to a parking spot and the stile over the fence to gain access to the moor. Bleak spot, very boggy approach, but pillar in good condition. Original brass plug has been removed and replaced upside down. I'd meant to bring my allen keys and replace it right way up, but seems quite novel, so didn't bother.

Has something stuck in the top - I've seen one somewhere else as well.
