Second visit. For photographs and GPS readings. HISTORY: Pillar completed 7th May 1953 costing 14.11s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NJ45/T23 in 1953. Levelled for height also in 1953. Last maintained by the OS in August 1987. SITE VISIT: Approached from the northwest. Parked by forest track entrance at NJ378521. It was found that the forest track network was more accurately mapped at 1:50K rather than 1:25K. Followed route up tracks via NJ380519 and NJ378515 from where the last section becomes more overgrown but does lead to the summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces ENE, 57. Vented through SW sight hole. Only view spans 68 from SE to SSW over trees.

Parked too early along the track as I was attracted to a benchmark on the house, easy enough walk up but more snow than I was expecting, ended up on a higher track than I should have been and it was blocked with trees so had to head straight up for 250m the last 100m through new plantation and very holey heather, dogs not impressed. Found the correct track down with no bother!

I parked at the road/track junction to the north-west. Then followed tracks (not actually as per 1:25000 map) up to the pillar. Replanted trees mean that the pillar is once again becoming enclosed and views are disappearing. Pillar although somewhat sunken is generally in good condition. At some stage the metal plug has been removed an replaced by a compound filler.

Brilliant view over my old home town of Keith! With the trees all cleared no need to use the old tower! Just as well, it's pretty rotten!

The trig, and check out that rainbow! It was a nice day, a bit blustery but the rain was coming! Hence the rainbow in the pic!
The GPS! My GPS on the trig.

Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed 7th May 1953 costing 14.11s.6d. Later in 1953 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NJ45/T23 in the Elgin secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height also in 1953. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in June 1987. Lovely woodland, no view. A nice start to a week long stay in Mulben.
