Always nice to get a consecutive FB number after Achalibster a few days earlier. Straighforward route along lanes then aim for the Caithness standing stone. No cows at time of visit. Dunnet and Orkney murky on the horizon.

Rough pasture very rough indeed, a lot of cattle on the pasture, ground between track and TP very cut up and muddy, not just mud - great care required not to step in the brown & smelly stuff. Much of the plantation to the NE is being harvested.

Parked up in layby on single track road at Rigifa. Up through the field towards the standing stone with pillar nearby. Pillar in good condition and sitting high on its very exposed base. All fixings in place with one of the capscrews sitting proud having either suffered an attempt at removal or poor fitting. Top of the pillar, like many a Caithness trig, in obvious regular use by a bird of prey! Views include Pentland Firth and distant Ben Griams.

Parked on main road beside a depo (I think). then walked back and jumped over a wall, cut across a field, over a rusty gate, over a barbed wire fence, then another, through the farmers dumping ground, past the sheep carcases and then arrived at the trig. Ony 600+ metres but a hard fought trig. Then the return journey. Of course, you drive around the corner and find the wee track you could have driven along.

Parked in gate entrance (on the rough road) north west of the trig. Walked in along stony track and cut across left when I saw the standing stone. Pillar is visible beyond - the other side of a farmers private landfill - custodians of the countryside my arse. Pillar sits proud on concrete plinth. Plug is intact although screws are half out. Covered in wool, as sheep use it as a scratching post.
