Parked at Blakehopeburnhaugh and followed Borderer's route to trig. Original cap is still in place. For the return I followed the firebreak NNW to the mapped permissive path which leads circuitously back to the start.

From Blakehopeburnhaugh (what a name) along forestry tracks to the Border County Ride east of the pillar. Despite previous logs the line of the footpath from here to the pillar is passable. Limited views from the pillar itself, slightly better at the gate to the west. Cut BM on the farmhouse near the car park clearly visible from the track.

Really decent walk up from the Forest Drive at Blackblakehope, the barrier gate on the track leading up to Stile Crag and Loaf Hill was unlocked and open so it was tempting to drive all the way to within a couple of hundred metres of the TP but we chose to walk on a beautiful crisp cloudless morning. The views from the top of Loaf Hill NE to the Cheviots was stunning, and then views opened up SE over Redesdale. From the gate onto Access Land at the top of the firebreak there are extensive views SW over a vast tract of very remote and inhospitable land. Sadly though there are no views but tress from the TP itself.

Used the Peregrinus approach from the NNW, and had no problems reaching the trig up the tussocky firebreak which is showing no signs of becoming overgrown. The dull trek along forest tracks from Blakehopeburnheugh was enlivened by forestry operations which were in action despite being late December and had turned a section of track into a deep swamp. The trig is in a clear area on the hilltop, feeling very lonely. Even by Northumberland standards, 3 visits in the last 12 years aren't many!

Visited in conjunction with neighbouring Blackwool Law. Parked beside toilet block at NT786002 and followed forest tracks as shown on maps. Mapped RoW east of pillar has been taken over by the young spruces. Should have read RHWs instructions afore setting off. Unable to find east end of said RoW and had to divert through break at NY770968 then north up very tussocky field along forest edge. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre retains original OS centre cap with deep indented lettering. Flush bracket faces 352, north. Vented through south sight hole. The pillar was completed on 15th July 1954 costing 41.10s.0d. In 1957 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT72/T48 in the Jedburgh block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1958. The trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1978. Any views all but lost to growing conifers. Followed overgrown RoW on the return journey and had to batter through very wet trees to reach the mapped forest tracks. Photographed 21/06/2008, GRP.

Follow Rob's advice and approach from NNW. We opted to follow the footpath in from the E and it is very overgrown. Cycled in via Ellis Crag and returned down Pennine Way at high speed.

Very retrosective log. I am not sure of the day but the month and year are correct. I did not note the condition of the pillar. Hitched to Cottonshopeburnfoot (England's longest placename!) and walked over a couple of days to Haltwhistle. Followed the forestry track to very close to the pillar and the first step on the footpath involved sinking to thigh depth in a bog! What a great start to the walk. After the pillar I had a rather hairy beck crossing at NY 748 940.
