Fabulous views in all directions, west to the Cheviots with Dunsmoor and Hedgehope well defined and the Cheviot itself still flecked in snow; south across Alnmouth Bay to Coquet Island; South West to Howick Hall & Gardens, north east over Howick Scar to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. For such a 'low' trig point this gives views that are out of all proportion to its lowly height!

The final trig of the day. I parked in a rough lay-by at 55° 27’ 28”N 001° 35’ 38”W, went through the adjacent gate and followed the track along the edge of the field (not a public RoW, I should add) until I was level with the pillar and then climbed the hill to the top of the rocky outcrop. You’re a bit exposed up here and in full view of the farm. There were some ominous black clouds gathering upwind so I didn’t hang about for too long. The pillar is in good condition with all the metalwork where it should be. It’s obviously been used as a ’rubbing post’ by the sheep and isn’t as white as it once was. You can see to the horizon in all directions from up here but it’s mostly coast and farmland; nice but hardly spectacular. The promised rain hit me just as I got back to the car… that was lucky.
