Parked in RSPB car park. The area seems to be a hang-out for the local teenagers in the evening. Pillar tucked away behind remains of windmill.

Almost dark when we arrive at Hodbarrow. parked in R.S.P.B car park and did a quick walk to old windmill stump and trig point. Lots of dog walkers so look out for the usual hazards underfoot.

If you can see the stump of the windmill then you can find the trig point. Despite the previous years of heavy industry this is actually a really quiet spot, and is surrounded by beauty with the sands of the Duddon Estuary on one side and a Nature Reserve on the other.

Views across to barrow with mist still over the Lakeland Hills. Lots of industrial heritage around this area. A rough track but drivable to within 200m of pillar. Others report some damage but this is very slight in my opinion.

With son Jamie. Took wrong turning and ended up at council,recycling plant next to old quarry lake. Retraced steps and after gingerly drive along rutted track. Remembered I had orange overalls in back of my car for planned idea from ten years back of 'Art' pics of his mum on mountain tops as Orange woman on the mountains. Persuaded Jamie to do his first trig shoot as 'Orange boy on the trigs' I'd be intrigued to know who and when the numbers were painted yellow. Noticed the same on another trig in the area.

You can get a car to within a couple of hundred yards, but if you have time park at the RSPB car park and walk all the way round the lagoon across the sea wall - its a lovely walk. Trig easy enough to find next to the old windmill ruins, but there seems to be more bracken around it than on the old photos. FB number has been picked out in yellow paint. DONT leave any valuables on show in the car in this area - at the RSPB carpark we returned to find the car 2 along from ours had been broken into!

Continued along the shore from Southfield Bank trig,easy going as the tide was out now so i could walk on the sand. After arriving at Haverigg i followed the sea defence wall round the nature reserve & past Hodbarrow lighthouse. Plenty to see around here,but the trig itself isnt in a very exciting place. Ruined building opposite makes it easy to find.

Visited this TP whilst Geo-caching around Hodbarrow. The nearest cache was GC20KWB an earth cache Mining, Minerals and Marshes in the Duddon Estuary. Pleasant views and plenty of birds for Twitchers.

Walked round the 'causeway' from Haverigg and ascended to teh ajacent tower. Pillar easily accessible. Stands well but has been slightly abused. A lovely viewing point with sea to the south and the hills to the north.

A great walk and view point if you are lucky to visit on a day when the off roaders are not out wrecking the place.Nearest town is Millom,not Dalton.

Although there is a track that leads to within 20yds of the trig, It makes a more interesting walk if you park about a mile away at the begining of the nature reserve just outside Millom

Walked from the Youth Hostel to get this one. I like it here. Scenery, history and isolation. Head for the ruined windmill in my photo.

If you drive to this one take the track from the west along the Outer Barrier. Next to a ruined stone structure (possibly a windmill?). Plug missing.

Approached from NW. Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed in May 1949 costing 8.16s.10d. In 1950 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station SD47/T27 in the Barrow-in-Furness secondary block. Flush bracket S5454 was levelled for height in 1956. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in November 1976. Spider centre open by 1990. No photos taken.
