Parked on Cuckmere Way. Walked up Ditching Road, and then on to the Hollingbury Park Golf Course. The pillar can be found on the grounds of the golf course. Tremendous views of Brighton seafront from the pillar. 4 of 7 today in and around Brighton & Hove

Parked at 146 spot height on road to north of Castle. Walked south up the footpath to find a path to the castle ramparts and round to trigpoint.

Trig on an embankment next to a maze of gorse bushes. Approach was slippery underfoot, and area was surrounded by a *lot* of magpies, but the biggest worry was looking out for golf balls, as the permissive path that leads to it crosses a golf course.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 1 June 1947 costing £10.2s.8d. Computed as secondary triangulation station TQ00/21 during 1947. Levelled for height to class 1 precision at secondary standards in 1967. Last maintained by the OS in 1978. SITE VISIT: Started at Surrenden Lane and walked up to golf course entrance to follow a permissive footpath leading all the way up to the hill fort and trig. Original OS cap with raised letters, vgc. Flush bracket facing S, compass measurement 180°. Sight holes beginning to fill with debris, great viewpoint and I can see why they built a fort here. Nice views of the sea even on a foggy day.

Stopped in layby by footpath onto the golf course. I followed the path round to the north and found the pillar on after three or four minutes. It is perched on one of the 'castle' ramparts. It is in good condition with good views over the channel.

Short walk up from roadside parking area to N. Pillar sits on the ramparts of an IA hill fort overlooking Brighton and the English Channel with also good downland views to W and N. Orginal cap retained, raised lettering; rear sight hole open. VGC.

Found as YOSM 364. Parked on Ditchling Road by footpath onto golf course and made the 0.25mile walk across the golf course to the TP which had good views across Brighton and Worthing.

A South Downs peasouper. Parked to N and followed path to Golf Course, and then circled hillfort to TP. The thick mist probably did me a favour as there were plenty of golfers around, including on the hole by the TP - which is in vgc, with original metalwork. No views !

I parked off-road at the start of the footpath that circles around the south side of the earthworks. There were a few golfers about and more dog walkers but it was a very pleasant walk up to the trig-point. The pillar is in good condition with all the metalwork in place. The centre plug is of the raised lettering variety. The pillar is currently adorned with some very aboriginal type chalk graffiti. Although it was warm and sunny, the distant views were obscured by a dark haze… Icelandic volcano ash, maybe? A very nice dog walker pointed out the orchids that were growing nearby. Lovely they were, too and worth a photo.

This one is sited on the rampart of an old Iron Age Fortification. It is surrounded on several sides by a golf course, but I managed to reach the pillar without getting clobbered by a ball. Good views on a clear day of Brighton, the downs and the coast.

This is the site of an ancient hill fort. The fort has a complete 360 degree panorama. All of its ditch and battlements earthworks are still in situ. The pillar is on the NW side on top of the battlements. You have to dodge a few golf balls to reach it, but the views are well worth it!
