As well as passing the location again, today I was able to approach reasonably close on foot, although there's not much provision for pedestrians here.

Location was behind the camera centre of picture.

On our way home I pulled off the motorway to pay homage. Kim looked at me quizzically and I explained. She has now stared deeper into the abyss of my madness than ever before and is content that there is no danger - a strangely calm and amusing moment!

En route to Portishead. Old Man now believes I am completely mad asking him to drive off, then immediately back on to, the M5. A short pause at the traffic lights on the roundabout allowed for good observation of the site. Back on the M5, you realise it must have had quite good views. [FB for logging purposes only].

OS records destroyed March 1967. M5 was extended south from J16 in stages between 1967 and 1977. Pillar was probably a casualty of those extensions.

The pillar no longer exists; its site is now within the roundabout of Junction 17 of the M5. This part of the motorway was built in 1969. North of the motorway the Hollywood Tower Estate has historical connections with the early days of aviation in the area and is currently owned by the Bristol and Clifton Zoological Society who are planning to build a new zoo on the site. To the south of the motorway is an extensive modern retail area and I am off to do some Christmas Shopping.
