Quick lunchtime trip to the site of what would have been my closest local trig. It's a fine spot, tucked in on the grass verge of a back lane, facing views over a golf course and then beyond to lower Wharfedale. A real shame that it's gone. You really know you've caught the bug when you start bagging 'dead' trigs...

The approximate location
The road junction (1)
The road junction (2) Pillar would have been somewhere central in this hedge, possibly more to the right near the fence.

Easy to find the location where the pillar was, helpful photo of white fence from JB was useful. Parked in nearby Asda and walked down Holt Park Rd to junction of Holt Lane, fence can be seen just W of Holt Farm. Map was also interesting as posted by Ted, this area must have been undeveloped at some point. No sign of trig although it would have likely been on or near the white fence on the high point of land on Holt Lane. Nice area, north Leeds and some views of Lower Wharfedale from here. Look out for bad golfers though! Would have made a longer walk if it wasn't so muddy, me being in my work shoes and all.

Log #44. (168m). First visit 14/12/09. Revisited today for photo shoot. I calculate the location to have been on fence line behind garage of the private residence at the corner of Holt Lane & Holt Park Rd. Probably removed by the builder or homeowner. Bagged from out & back detour off circular walk through Golden Acre Park.

Holt Lane Trig Probably stood to the right of my ruksack, at the fence-line.

Another one needlessly removed. Surely housing could have been arranged around it? View of the golf course, which if you get excited about you really do need to seek medical help.

map source: Ordnance Survey, Leeds and Bradford Sheet 96 One-Inch, 1964 edition. Regarding robpac's theory: The symbol at (255398) (above the i in Tinshill) is slightly less regular in shape compared to the trig symbols for Holt Lane and Stairfoot Lane - it seems to represent a building rather than a trig (although the hilltop is a plausible location). Walked past the water tower on 8th May 2004; nothing visible from the road. The top deck of a 96 bus would be a way of seeing further?

I believe from studing various maps that this might be listed wrong. From what I can see it is in fact on or around the water tower on Otley Old Rd, I believe the grid ref is 255 398. Anyone had any luck with this one?
