On a yoga retreat on the Island and staying over for several nights. A pretty intense course with only a small window in the afternoon to swim and visit the pillar. However, managed to safely go from N to S and return via the coastal path (interesting Tibetan rock paintings), however I would suggest going anti clockwise since very exposed, steep and "wafty" weather can hinder progress. Gifted to Jess, a friends Beagle and a chum to my beloved PJR. Together again RIP.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 10th March 1956 costing £79.5s.0d (£79.25). Computed as secondary triangulation station NS04/10 within the Isle of Arran block durung 1956. Levelled for height also in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in May 1978. CROSSING: Public free car park off southeast side of main road in Lamlash at NS028312. This visit was originally to have been two days earlier but the ferry service to the Holy Island was unable to run due to the choppy seas, something to bear in mind when planning to visit. When the service is able to run, their timetable can be subject to variations depending on the tides and they run extra journeys at busy times. The crossing is approximately 15 minutes each way. SITE VISIT: After a five minute introduction to all visitors by one of the island resident volunteers, the main route up is from the north via the mapped path which is waymarked on the ground. Mullach Mor. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces west, 264°. Vented through north sight hole. Full 360° panorama includes Clauchland, Goat Fell and Ailsa Craig. Descended towards the south end of the island and returned to the pier via the coastal path along the east side. An enjoyable visit in good weather.

Owned by the Bhuddist community, we were met off the ferry (15 min crossing from Lamlash) by a representative and given some guidance on what we should/shouldn't do on the island. Heading along the coastal path to the southern end we walked up over the top and back to the jetty in around 2hrs 15mins. Some good views from the 314m summit, but too hazy for the mainland. The trig is not in the best of shapes having some cracks in it and damage to the top which has exposed the end of one the spider arms. The pillar is not as well looked after as most of the other Arran trigs. The island is home to some interesting features - Bhuddist rock paintings, these have been engraved onto the rock faces before painting to give a relief effect; St Molaise's Cave (with a cut benchmark not in the OS database - is it a cutBM or a symbol of some other sort?); a feral population of extremely tame Soay sheep, some goats and Eriksay horses. They all look a bit emaciated, but guess that's the effect of fending for themselves as the Bhuddists have no interaction with them. A worthwhile half-day out.

Although only 1030' altitude, being the peak of a small island the views in every direction are excellent, especially northwards to the mountains of northern Arran. The climb is not too arduous from the north with only a tiny bit of hands-on required - the approach from the south requires much more scrambling. Beware of fissures in the rock - roped off for safety - on the southern side of Mullach Mor.

Minor girdling crack at half height, metal cap, deep letters (under a little cairn - I had to burrow to find it). Busy sunny Easter Sunday, the boat was very busy at a tenner apiece. Fine view including snowy Goat Fell which I climbed first thing. Mullach Buidhe this pm so a quick jog up and down had to suffice today - good fun on a nice firm path; warm dry feet for once. The Peace Centre was just finishing a course so there were a few extra folk on the return boat.

adding to what has been said before, make sure you do this walk as a circular, it is a well trodden path. There are a lot of sights (paintings, cave and spring) along the shore walk. Make sure you pop into the garden too, to see all the painted stones. Stayed there overnight (with dinner and breakfast) for £18. A fantastic place....oh yeah the trigged summit was great too. Brilliant views and the trig with peace flags and offerings was a nice touch too!

This Trigpoint stands on top of Mulloch Mor on the Holy Island off the Isle of arran. The views are beautiful. The island hosts a Buddhist temple and retreat. The Buddhist volunteers are planting trees indigenous to Scotland and have Soay sheep, and goats as well as Eriskay ponies. There are no roads; only a footpath. There is a Holy Spring at St Molaise'e cave. He brought Christianity to Scotland along with St Colomba. Access to the island is by a small 10 seat ferry and takes about 15 minutes depending on the current. Whilst on the island you will receive a warm welcome but are expected to respect basic rules about non smoking, no alcohol, and general conduct. There are retreats, workshops and opportunities to meditate on the island, however you are just as welcome to visit without being any part of the activities. There is a small coffee shop for those who wish to wait for their friend/partner to climb Mulloch Mor. I can climb it in 1 hour and I am not fit at all. The main island of Arran is a beautiful place to stay and is referred to as Scotland in miniature
